The Weekend Golf format is very different from the Classic Golf format and it is important to know how to build winning lineups and attack these contests over on DraftKings.  Simply put, Weekend Golf is all about scoring.  Fantasy points for finishing positions are no longer awarded so selecting the right golfers for your lineup will require the right mix of golfers who started off well and others who might just be finding their form for a solid weekend run.

This is a slight change to the regular Weekend Golf article format, feel free to reach out if there’s something you’d like included/brought back.

Thursday/Friday recap

This week, Copperhead has shown its fangs, with the cut coming at +3 (77 making it through) and the leader sitting at -6. Right behind the Canadian – who entered the field as an alternate once Kyle Stanley withdrew – are some older studs in Tiger Woods, Brandt Snedeker, and Paul Casey.

The wind was a big factor through the first 36, but as always at Copperhead it’s been very tough to hit fairways and get to the green with a chance for birdie. Because it’s so tough to hit the fairways and most players club down, more focus should be on second shots, and play around the greens. The top-5 in those categories are:

Approach: Blayne Barber, Patrick Reed, Louis Oosthuizen, Sean O’Hair, David Lingmerth

Around the Greens: Ollie Schniederjans, Jason Kokrak, Bill Haas, Alex Cejka, Keegan Bradley

Notable missed cuts:  Jordan Spieth, Chesson Hadley, Tony Finau, Bryson DeChambeau (via Andercurse), Charley Hoffman, Henrik Stenson, Ryan Moore, Matt Fitzpatrick (cc Ryan Baroff), Rory McIlroy

The weekend

Weather consideration: The wind on Saturday will be comparable to what we saw on Thursday and Friday – which is to say, it will be a factor. Come Sunday it will be even worse, with steady wind increasing from 6-12mph on Saturday all the way up to 15-20mph on Sunday with gusts up to 30mph. There are currently thunderstorms likely (70%) on Sunday, so this tournament may carry into Monday.

MDF consideration: No MDF

Other consideration: With the wind such a factor on Sunday, consider the golfers with low launch angles. This will typically be the European/non-American players (Branden Grace being a great example) who play in much worse conditions across the pond and can flight down as needed.
