Weather consideration: Conditions so far have been pretty muted for a US Open, and the weather on both Saturday and Sunday looks to continue that way with a very mild weekend upcoming. There’s a small (20-30%) chance of some precipitation on both Saturday and Sunday morning, but not enough expected to impact the course or delay play, and the temps will still be in the 55-60F range.
Looking at the wind, Saturday will be a touch easier than Sunday: no sustained winds above 10mph on Saturday vs. sustained winds up to 14mph on Sunday, and gusts will be no more than 15mph on Saturday vs. 18mph on Sunday. Even as a coastal course, these conditions are basically exactly what players have seen so far.
The weather isn’t hot enough to bake out the greens, so even if the USGA decides not to soak the greens, they should continue to be soft in the morning and tougher in the afternoon as poa tends to do. Early golfers should have the advantage over the weekend on the greens, but that’s about it.
MDF consideration: It’s a major, no MDF
