Weekend Warriors – The Masters
The Weekend Golf format is very different from the Classic Golf format and it is important to know how to build winning lineups and attack these contests over on FanDuel. Simply put, Weekend Golf is all about scoring. Fantasy points for finishing positions are no longer awarded so selecting the right golfers for your lineup will require the right mix of golfers who started off well and others who might just be finding their form for a solid weekend run.
With DraftKings going to single rounds, this is FanDuel only – if you miss weekend golf, STRONGLY consider letting them know via support or @DK_Assist on Twitter that they’re missing the boat.
Thursday/Friday recap
As everyone expected, the Sunday black and red Nike-wearing GOAT performed incredibly well to get to the weekend in the leader – it just wasn’t Tiger Woods. Patrick Reed performed beautifully on Friday in improving to -9, hitting most greens and putting with magic.
As actually expected, Augusta continued to be a tough test both for getting to the green in regulation and putting on the bikini-waxed greens. With the cut coming at +5, there are some notable names that missed the (relatively simple) cut line – see below – but the top of the leaderboard is littered with all the studs that would be expected to be there: DJ, Rory, Stenson, Spieth, JT, Bubba, Rickie and Rose are all still in the hunt on the first page of the leaderboard, which sets up an excellent weekend.
Notable missed cuts: Gary Woodland, Kevin Chappell, Jason Dufner, Patrick Cantlay, Thomas Pieters, Pat Perez, Alex Noren, Mike Weir, Sergio Garcia
The weekend
Weather consideration: The wind will be getting pretty wild come Saturday afternoon, with steady winds expected around 12-18mph with gusts up to 25-30mph in the afternoon. While there is rain to come that could throw delays in play – including possibly thundershowers in the afternoon – it would make sense to target some of the players at the back with early tee times, who will be able to avoid the heavy winds. Sunday will be fine.
MDF consideration: No
Other consideration: With no ShotLink at Augusta, there are no stats to consider beyond very basic ones. Consider dialing back on how much you enter this weekend. At the same time, this is FanDuel’s first offering at Weekend Golf (GREAT timing!) and while the prize pools could use a boost, there’s a definite edge to be found as there always is at Augusta. The big names will get chased, the top of the leaderboard will be chased, tee times won’t be considered, and there are great opportunities to get low-owned golfers with a ton of upside.
