The weekend

Random considerations: There’s no cut to consider, which is a nice bonus, but scoring will see some wild swings this weekend: after seven holes in the first round, Patrick Reed was DFL, but he enters the weekend at -8 and T2 after firing a second round 66; that’s a good example of the variance expected this weekend, as this is a very gettable course. MME players should maybe add a couple golfers to their player pool more than normal – especially given this is a tiny field.

Weather consideration: There’s a 40% chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday, with projected amounts between a ¼” and a ½”. The course renovations done over the past year should combat soft conditions so even if it rains, it won’t quite be the target golf that would normally be expected; that being said, distance still makes a difference in wet conditions and especially here.

It’s the wind that will be a major factor over the next two days, as sustained winds will be in the 20-30mph range all weekend, but with gusts up to 40mph. The winds stay consistent throughout the day, so there’s no advantage to be found in going off early vs. going off late. The weather will be very comparable to Friday’s weather when there was Lift, Clean and Place, so there’s a strong possibility that continues this weekend; golfers that did well on Friday should therefore be expected to play well again on the weekend.
