Weekend Warriors – RBC Canadian Open

Welcome to the weekend! Adam let me know that he is going to be a little bit late tonight with his column, so I figured I might as well jump in and share a couple of pointers headed to the weekend while we wait for Kid Canada to get his thoughts together.

In looking at the weekend, the first thing to note is that there will be no MDF over the weekend which means we cane lean back and fire at some deep plays without worry of them not getting through to Sunday. Whenever I jump into weekend full steam, the first thing that I like to do is to check out the chart to see which studs have underperformed over the first two rounds to see who is capable of making a charge over the final two rounds. This week is pretty juicy up at the top when looking over the list of names. Our biggest concern heading into the week was whether or not certain stars would show up with their heads in the game and while that is still an issue, my thought from here is that as long as they actually took the time to fight to the weekend, they might as well make some extra coin for their time. What is particularly encouraging about some of the names at the top of the chart this week is that many of the top names had to fight on Friday just to make the cut. It would have been very easy for theses players to kick it in on Friday and be in Pebble Beach by tomorrow, but instead, they found a way through the cut and these are the type of players that you want to look for over the weekend. Look, if Harris English shoots -8 tomorrow, there is not a lot you could have done to identified him as a potential option for the weekend other than throwing a dart and hoping that it hits. However, when you have a great player in 55th place who had one bad round, but recovered well on Day 2 and tees off early, it is a much higher likelihood that this player could go low.

In looking at the weather tomorrow, the winds are going to be a little more of a factor than the first two rounds with heavier winds from 2pm until the end of the day. If you are going to lean one way, I would say that the morning guys should have the edge in scoring, but be sure to take a look at the link for yourself to see if anything changes before the tee times tomorrow.
