Weekend Warriors – Houston Open
The Weekend Golf format is very different from the Classic Golf format and it is important to know how to build winning lineups and attack these contests over on DraftKings. Simply put, Weekend Golf is all about scoring. Fantasy points for finishing positions are no longer awarded so selecting the right golfers for your lineup will require the right mix of golfers who started off well and others who might just be finding their form for a solid weekend run.
This is a slight change to the regular Weekend Golf article format, feel free to reach out if there’s something you’d like included/brought back.
Thursday/Friday recap
After one of the wilder cut-number sweats yet, the cut ended up at -3 which made for a lot of golfers making it through to the weekend (91 golfers to be exact). There will be a massive MDF coming – see below.
Most of the chalk got through this week in what’s proven to be the birdie-fest that was expected pre-tournament. Beau Hossler is the current leader at -11, with big names like Rickie Fowler (T2), Jordan Spieth (T6) and Matt Kuchar (T11) all looking to make a push heading into Augusta. The scoring was very easy for the first wave on Thursday thanks to a drenched course which made for very receptive greens.
Notable missed cuts: Rafa Cabrera Bello, Corey Conners, Patrick Rodgers, Peter Uihlein, Chez Reavie, Harold Varner III, Steve Stricker.
The weekend
Weather consideration: The weather on Saturday and Sunday will be very similar to Saturday conditions, which means the course should be very close to fully dry thanks to all the sun on Friday. Expect lots of scoring, but probably not as much as the first two days. The wind will be fairly steady in the 10mph range, but no wild gusts should keep the wind from being much of a factor.
MDF consideration: This is going to be a MASSIVE MDF thanks to Bobby Gates three-jacking on 18 (among other things). The recommendation is to stay pretty far away from the guys flirting with that number unless multi-entering, in which case they should see some very low ownership.
