Weekend Warriors – Honda Classic
The Weekend Golf format is very different from the Classic Golf format and it is important to know how to build winning lineups and attack these contests over on DraftKings. Simply put, Weekend Golf is all about scoring. Fantasy points for finishing positions are no longer awarded so selecting the right golfers for your lineup will require the right mix of golfers who started off well and others who might just be finding their form for a solid weekend run.
This is a slight change to the regular Weekend Golf article format, feel free to reach out if there’s something you’d like included/brought back.
Thursday/Friday recap
Carnage, carnage, carnage everywhere. The winds and tough layout of PGA National absolutely decimated golfers over the first 36, with the cut eventually settling at FIVE over. The wind was obviously a factor throughout the first two rounds, but the pin placement on some of the holes made par a very good score.
Luke List had the round of the day on Friday by shooting a -4 and sitting tied for the lead with another strong round from Jamie Lovemark, but the key to making it to the weekend was avoiding the big numbers in the Bear Trap (holes 15-17), and scoring on the par-5s.
Notable missed cuts: Tyrell Hatton, Patrick Reed, Rickie Fowler, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter (lol), Brandt Snedeker, Charles Howell III, Russell Knox, Kevin Kisner, Chesson Hadley – it’s a long list.
The weekend
Weather consideration: Slight chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday (30/20%), but temperatures and wind will be about the same as we saw on Thursday and Friday; Sunday will see a touch less wind, but still in the 10-18mph area as opposed to the 12-22 we got the first two days. The lightest gusts over both two days will be in the morning so looking at early tee times is a smart idea.
MDF consideration: None!
