Weekend Warriors – Genesis Open
The weekend
This weekend is a bit of a mess, with weather delays really throwing a wrench into everything. Shottracker data listed below is only one-to-one and half rounds of data for most golfers, so it’s important to take with a grain of salt. The actual SG numbers don’t properly reflect ranks since not everyone has played the same number of holes – i.e. Cantlay has 4SG:App and ranks 6th, compared to CH3 who has 3SG:App and ranks 1st.
*If you’re not a high-risk player, consider ONLY playing R4 Showdown this weekend.*
Notable missed cuts: No cut news as of yet – too tough to tell with play suspended and half the field not even teed off for round two.
Weather consideration: The weather on the weekend should be much improved over what was seen on Thursday and Friday, which has caused the gigantic delay and mess: only passing showers on Saturday and Sunday, although Sunday afternoon should see more rain than Saturday. Winds will be in the 12-22mph range sustained although gusts won’t pick up much more than that.
With distance already being a strong factor at Riviera, the wet and soft course conditions will reward long hitters more than normal as the fairways won’t roll and greens will be incredibly receptive. Even with high winds, a soft course could see lots of birdies – although there’s no lift, clean, place expected for rounds 3 & 4 since they didn’t use it for round two.
MDF consideration: Unknown, unfortunately. You could get risky with players hovering near what the current projected cut line is (currently -1/E) for extremely low ownership, but that’s not a recommended strategy. There are a few high-risk players listed below, but in general, stick with players who are at -2 or better.
