Weekend Warriors – Genesis Open
The Weekend Golf format is very different from the Classic Golf format and it is important to know how to build winning lineups and attack these contests over on DraftKings. Simply put, Weekend Golf is all about scoring. Fantasy points for finishing positions are no longer awarded so selecting the right golfers for your lineup will require the right mix of golfers who started off well and others who might just be finding their form for a solid weekend run.
This is a slight change to the regular Weekend Golf article format, feel free to reach out if there’s something you’d like included/brought back.
Thursday/Friday recap
Lots of the chalk managed to squeeze through the cut after it looked impossible, with Paul Casey hitting a long birdie on the last, Chez Reavie getting up & down, and the cut moving to +2 meant Adam Scott didn’t have to get haunted by a 2’ missed putt.
Riviera continues to be a very tough test and an excellent course, with the co-leaders (currently) being Sam Saunders, Patrick Cantlay, and Graeme McDowell at -7. There have only been three bogey-free rounds with Scott Stallings pending – Chez Reavie (round 1), Martin Kaymer and Cameron Smith (round two).
Continuing to target approach and overall tee to green play is crucial heading into the weekend, as the narrow fairways here can cause some huge numbers. With positioning not making a difference, I’d put less of an emphasis on play around the green – so many greens are getting missed in regulation that the 1-pt swing of a par to a bogey isn’t as impactful as making bird.
Notable missed cuts: Tiger Woods, Ollie Schniederjans, Kyle Stanley, Marc Leishman, Wesley Bryan, Daniel Berger.
