Weekend Warriors – Forth Worth Invitational

The Weekend Golf format is very different from the Classic Golf format and it is important to know how to build winning lineups and attack these contests over on DraftKings.  Simply put, Weekend Golf is all about scoring.  Fantasy points for finishing positions are no longer awarded so selecting the right golfers for your lineup will require the right mix of golfers who started off well and others who might just be finding their form for a solid weekend run.

Unless DraftKings brings back weekend golf – please let them know if you’re unhappy – all prices listed for full weekend will be FanDuel. The Saturday names to consider are all DraftKings pricing.

Thursday/Friday recap

Justin Rose leads the pack after two days with a -10, but the leaderboard is full of very different styles of golfer: longer hitters like Rose, Brooks Koepka, and Kevin Tway are in scoring very well, while short knockers like Alex Cejka, Ben Crane and Ben Silverman also fill in the top-10. Rose has achieved his spot atop the leaderboard thanks to incredibly strong numbers with his irons, and he’s left himself short putts on the bulk of his holes – Rose has gained almost 7 strokes on approach, and leads the field in greens in regulation.

Colonial continues to be a tough test in play off the tee, with 60% of fairways hit being a good number so far. As mentioned in the First Tee, positioning for the approach shot will be the most important thing, so it’s not imperative to actually “hit” the fairway, but without a good angle for the second shot a birdie will be almost impossible. For weekend golf, continue to target strong approach players, but also focus on longer hitters – see the weather notes below.

Notable missed cuts (+2 was the line): Cam Smith, Zach Johnson, Grayson Murray, Xander Schauffele, Aaron Wise, Webb Simpson, Patrick Cantlay

The weekend

Weather consideration: The course will play much softer on Saturday with rain Friday night into Saturday morning, which should make it a bit more of a birdie-fest than it has been so far for Saturday’s round; expect the course to dry out for the golfers going off late on Saturday, and revert to normal for the Sunday finish. The winds on both days will be negligible, and it will be hot (since it is Texas in May after all).

MDF consideration:  There will be a full field of 78 left for Saturday and Sunday, but no MDF thankfully.
