Weekend Warriors – AT&T Byron Nelson

The Weekend Golf format is very different from the Classic Golf format and it is important to know how to build winning lineups and attack these contests over on DraftKings.  Simply put, Weekend Golf is all about scoring.  Fantasy points for finishing positions are no longer awarded so selecting the right golfers for your lineup will require the right mix of golfers who started off well and others who might just be finding their form for a solid weekend run.

Unless DraftKings brings back weekend golf – please let them know if you’re unhappy – all prices listed for full weekend will be FanDuel. The Saturday names to consider are all DraftKings pricing.

Thursday/Friday recap

The first look at Trinity Forest is best described by Geoff Fienberg as a mix between Erin Hills (2017 US Open site) and Chambers Bay (2015 US Open) – just without the horrendous poa of Chambers Bay. Golfers need to be smart off the tee by positioning themselves for a second shot, and the slow greens have made putting …interesting… for some players (Jordan Spieth) and easier for others (Hideki Matsuyama).

Marc Leishman is the current leader at -15 on the back of incredible putting (7.3SG) but solid play from tee to green as well; he’s just one shot ahead of Aaron Wise. There’s not much of a pattern in the leaderboard in terms of what type of game has found success, with some of the top-15 really struggling on the greens (Scott, Mitchell) while others like Brian Gay and Eric Axley have gained the bulk of their strokes with the putter.

Notable missed cuts: (-4 was the line) Grayson Murray (WD but would’ve missed anyway), Martin Laird, Sergio Garcia, Matt Kuchar, Ryan Palmer, James Hahn, Bill Haas, Brandt Snedeker

The weekend

Weather consideration: Both Saturday and Sunday will be partly cloudy and breezy, with a slight chance at rain both days (about 20%). The winds on both days will look similar to what was seen Friday afternoon, sustained winds around 15mph with gusts up to 20-25mph. Not much weather concern or advantage to any AM/PM splits.

MDF consideration: Free at last! No MDF this week.
