Web.com Tour Recap – Lincoln Land Charity Championship – by Keagan Scott
Hey everybody, my name is Keagan Scott and I’m going to be covering the Web.com tour here at Fantasy Golf Insider. I’m from a little town in northern Indiana and I’ve played golf for as long as I can remember. Although I could’ve played golf at smaller schools in the Midwest, I decided to take my academic talents to Purdue University, where it took me not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 years to graduate in 2014. I got into fantasy golf heavily last year and I’ve had a dramatic improvement in my results over the last few months, mostly due to putting in the required research each week.
Enough about me, let’s get to the Web.com tour and what I’ll be covering each week. I’m really excited about this because the Web.com Tour is the main launching pad for the next great PGA Tour stars (unless you’re someone like Tiger Woods who was incredible as a 2 year old.) If you guys can get familiar with some of the top players here it’s certainly going to help in your PGA daily contests once they graduate to the PGA Tour. When the fall portion of the new season rolls around, by studying up now, you can put a little distance between yourself and your fellow competitors. Each week, I’m going to give a full recap of the tournament, highlight certain players and give updates on how the tournament affected the Top 25 Money List rankings, as those are the players who earn Tour status for the following year.
This week the Web.com Tour was in Springfield, Illinois for the Lincoln Land Charity Championship.
Martin Flores – 1st
• Martin shot 22 under par for the tournament thanks to a 4 under par 67 in the final round. This is the 34 year old’s first win on tour in his 56th start, which was good enough to vault him to 4th place on the money list. He is a past graduate from the Web.com tour in 2011 and has 142 starts on the PGA Tour, including 28 top 25 finishes.
Jonathan Randolph – 2nd
• Thanks to a final round 63, Jonathan Randolph took 2nd place and gave himself some cushion on the top 25 money list. He moved from 25th to 17th with this finish and has three top 10’s on the season.
Wes Bryan – 2nd
• The Web.com Tour money leader, Wes Bryan came into the final round with a 1 shot lead, but never got anything going and shot a final round 70. He did create a larger cushion to remain atop the money list. Bryan is the best player on the Web.com Tour this season with 2 wins and six top 10’s.
Adam Svensson – 10th
• The winner of the 2015 Web.com Tour Q-School, Adam finished in 10th place. This is his second consecutive top 10 and has two other top 25’s on the year. He’s now in 53rd place on the money list and will need to make a serious move to get into the top 25.
Cheng Tsung Pan – 16th
• Although he may be small (standing only 5’6” and weighing at 145 pounds), Cheng Tsung Pan has played some solid golf this season. He took 10th place this week for his third top 10 on the season. Cheng turned pro in 2015 and has played in 5 PGA Tour events. He’s currently 18th on the money list.
Max Homa – 18th
• After winning the Rust-Oleum Championship in June, Max finally got back on track after three straight missed cuts. He took 18th place this week and has two top 10’s on the season and four top 25’s. The University of California product is currently 11th on the money list.
Ollie Schniederjans – 21st
• Although he might be better known for his crazy last name and his hatless hair on the golf course, Ollie has put together a nice resume after turning pro in 2015. The 3 time All American at Georgia Tech University and former #1 ranked amateur already has a top 15 in a major after taking 12th in the 2015 Open Championship. He’s currently in 3rd on the Web.com Tour money list with four top 10’s including a win three weeks ago. Look for him to be a tour staple for the foreseeable future.
Austin Cook -23rd
• From the University of Arkansas, Austin ranks 43rd on the money list and turned pro in 2014. This season he has five top 25’s including three straight with his 23rd place finish this week.
Trey Mullinax – 33rd
• Trey is currently 8th on money list this season. He’s from the University of Alabama and turned pro in 2014. So far this season he has four top 25’s including a win at the Rex Hospital Open in May. Trey also has a top 25 finish on the PGA Tour at The RSM Classic in November of 2015. He’s 284th in the official world golf ranking.
Brandon Hagy – 44th
• Brandon took 44th place this week, which moved him from inside the top 25 to outside. He now stands at 29th after being 24th the prior week. We’ll have to see if he can get back into the top 25 the rest of the way. The University of California graduate turned pro in 2014 and has three top 10’s this season.
Jonathan Byrd – 55th
• Jonathan Byrd is an interesting case. He turned pro in 2000 and is 38 years old so he’s much more experienced than his competitors. After turning pro 16 years ago, he has went on to have a solid PGA Tour career that recently tapered off. He has 5 wins on tour and also won the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. His last win on tour came in 2011 at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. This season, he was in a situation where he needed to secure his PGA Tour card so he’s now focusing on making the top 25 on the Web.com Tour money list. After his 55th place finish this week, he moved from 23rd to 27th on the list so he has a little work to do to get back inside. He has three top 10’s on the Web.com Tour this season.
Brian Campbell – mc
• The missed cut from Brian Campbell moved him to 10th on the money list. The University of Illinois graduate had four consecutive top 10 finishes before this missed cut. In only 8 events this season, he has five top 10’s. He also finished 27th in the 2015 US Open.
Cody Gribble – mc
• From the University of Texas, Cody is currently 45th on money list. He turned pro in 2013 and in 15 events this season he has four top 25 finishes. He now has missed 4 consecutive cuts and has missed five of his last six. Cody also has a 21st place in the 2014 US Open.
Rodolfo Cazaubon – mc
• From Mexico, Rodolfo was the 2015 Player of the Year on the Latino America Tour by winning three times. He turned pro in 2013 and is currently 109th on the money list. He has two top 25 finishes on the Web.com Tour and also took 3rd place at the Puerto Rico Open on the PGA Tour in March.
