The First Tee – WGC Mexico Championship by Jason Rouslin
One of three trips the players will make across the Gulf over the next few weeks, but this week it’s only a select few golfers, as the PGA Tour takes a week off. One of my favorite weeks of the year is next week, where I’ll be giving you some great content from the Innisbrook grounds. Pro-Am standouts, practice round, etc. I’ll be there to see it all. Mazwa- Ha…Ya’ll ready for this. We’ve got another brother story brewing here. Remember ChiptoleAddict and Pappagates? Well Mazwa, winner of last year’s Masters Millionaire Maker, is brothers to RaggingPhillp… And he’s the guy that I mentioned in the opening of the segment. - So, here’s what I see… I’m gonna come out and say it, there’s no way these guys aren’t playing together. One went all in on Scott, the other barely played him. That’s all I need to see. But furthermore, they have about 60% of the same pool, and where they differ, is exact price corollaries. So, for example one went Koepka the other went O’Hair. One went Leishman the other went Palmer. Basically, what they did was, cover about 35 total guys, and get 300 lineups out of them. Must be nice.

Players: Top 5 Guys and a Pick to Click this Week
Last Week’s Result: T14, T14, T52, MC, MC, MC
- Rickie Fowler ($9,900)- Coming off a W where his game looked incredibly sharp, and gets to come to a no cut event? I like what I’m seeing here from his game, and at 9,900 I expect a shot at a top 5 come Sunday.
- Tyrell Hatton ($8,300)- Well he and his Oscar winning performances after missed putts head to Mexico where I think the course absolutely suits him. He’s playing great golf and at 8,300 where you see Woodland, Garcia, JT, and Rahm near, may get overlooked. I think he makes a run at another top 5 this week.
- Alex Noren- ($7,200) 11th ranked golfer in the world, and he’s 7,200. This is by far and away the biggest difference between Vegas-DK- and the OWGR. His last two starts were 21st and 13th, so the RF is there, he’s got great comps for courses that are said to be similar to the Club De Golf Chapultepec. I love this value, and think he can easily find himself in the top 10 this weekend.
- Bernd Wiesberger- ($7,100) Another Berger on the list this week, this time it’s a guy from the Euro Tour though. Ranked 36th in the OWGR and playing great golf with 4/4 cuts made in his last 4, and two top 5’s. He’s found mild success on the comp courses, but in a no cut event you can expect this man to make a ton of birdies.
- Pablo Larrazabal- ($6,500) Well, this guy comes in ranked in the top 10 on the Euro Tour in BOB %. A min price and decent recent form making 3/4 cuts with a second-place finish in Dubai, I like what you’re getting here at 6500.
Pick to Click: 5 Guys above 10k this Week.
- Well I steered you wrong last week as JT couldn’t get it together to get himself to the weekend. This week is the first time this year we get to see Rory play with Spieth and DJ. Matsuyama and Stenson round out the other 2 guys in this price category. The only one I’m nervous about playing is Rory, first tourney back, but you know he’s going to make a ton of birdies. If I had to pick one it’s Henrik Stenson ($10,300) because he can win, and isn’t terribly expensive.
Fades:
Last Week’s Results: Both had pretty decent weeks last week. I’ll try to do better this week.
- Dufner-8100 way too much when Noren’s 7200
- Molinari-8200 same reason as above.
Names to know, or I had to look up-
- Roberto Diaz ($6,500)- Playing his way via the highest ranked Mexican golfer in the world, Diaz has been tearing up the Web.Com tour this year posting a 4/4 record with 3 top 20’s. In a no cut event for the min price playing for the pride of his country, I like the narrative here.
