Weekly Roundup – The Shriners

ROD PAMPING PAMPLING! Opened with a 60 and finished with 66 to collect his first win on tour since 2006. 10 FREAKING YEARS. Wow. Koepka, the perennial runner up finisher, collected yet another second-place finish. Going into the final round 45 golfers were within 5 shots, that’s just insane, and it certainly made for some great TV.

My Fantasy Week Recap: Well, with 6 PHR- player holes remaining- 4 from Glover and 2 from Finau, I sat in second place in the $4 Fore. However, Finau went bogey double in his last 2, and Glover fell apart, so as you can imagine my lineup did not stay in the top 10. However, I was able to have 90/150 lineups cash while having LOVEMARK at 40% clip ugh. Imagine if he had made the cut? Still those 90 lineups helped me earn a nice couple hundo for the week. I’ll try to earn my first win next week.

The Winning Strategy: Well, Koepka and Molinari were 2 great guys to own, both coming in at over 10K, but if you were one of the very lucky few that had Pampling 0.1% owned that was obviously the winning strategy. Aaron Wise was the other find of the week coming in at 5900 and earning a top 10.

Right & Wrong
• Where I went Right- 75% Rahm, 40% Koepka, 27% Bradley
• Where I Went Wrong- 0 Pampling, 40% Lovemark.

Player Ownership Analysis
Well again one of our resident users was PEPPERING the top of the little board with entries. If you’re not following what the pros are doing on this next section, how they are constructing their lineups, then you are really missing out. Each week it seems one of our guys ends up with a huge finish. Let’s see what we can learn this week. OH and none of them rostered Pampling, not even once.

SaahilSud – Webb Simpson was the all in go for Saahil this week. Better than last week, still not the greatest guy to have. However, he built a pretty darn good lineup even with Webb in it.

1350978425 – I don’t know why this user chose this user name, maybe it’s code for something I don’t understand, or maybe it’s a former user who changed his name. Regardless, this user has been maxing out entries the last few weeks, and with some of our normal list contributors playing a little bit less, I decided to add this one to the list. Let’s check out his strategy and how it fared this week.

OHL Classic @ Mayakoba : Well a tour vet really surprised all of us at 0.1% owned taking home the crown, let’s see if it’ll be another wiley old vet like Jim Furyk or one these new young guns like Rahm.

Stats: Sadly guys I wasn’t able to get you Pampling but I did get you Koepka in 3/5.

1. 175-200 Approach shots- Interesting that this was the most common thread amongst winners and top finishers over the last 3 years – Finau, Garrigus, Varner, Bohn, Cauley, Gonzalo Fernandez
2. Boegy Avoidance – Cejka, Fathauer, Peterson, Kelley, Hearn
3. Strokes Gained Putting – Gribble, Gay, English, Kirk, Chalmers, Hadwin
4. Birdie or Better % – Garrigus, Gribble, List, Cauley, Thompson, Cejka, Howell III
5. Tee 2 Green – Piercy, Bradley, Simpson, Woodland, List, Riefers.

Player Focus: OHL Classic @ Mayakoba

On the Rise: Well my Click to Pick earned a second place finish so nice there. But other than that, pretty lackluster. 15th, 36th, 65th MCX 6 ugh brutal.

Graeme McDowell– $9,100 I know I am picking the defending champ, but other than last week’s back 9 collapse to miss the cut, Graeme has been playing pretty decent. 4th at the British Masters and 15th at the Links Championship, Graeme will try to earn another trip to Kapula next year as he did last year at this very same tournament.
o 98 DK Points

Si Woo Kim– $8,900 Not to be confused with the other S. Kim that was in the field at the Shriners who played terribly, this Kim has some decent course history coming in 17th here last year. Off to a nice start in the 2016-2017 PGA tour season, Kim presents some much-needed value coming in under 9k.
o P/PR= 89

Derek Fathauer– $8,300 Recent form- 36th, 3rd, 15th checks out, and course history? Even better 4th here last year. I like Derek’s game as his putting has significantly improved, and any hot putter, I want to follow.
o P/PR=83

Jason Bohn– $7,600 Making the cut last week I’m sure will help his confidence going into a course he clearly LOVES, and another reason why his price is so astronomically high for him at 7600. 2nd 7th and 3rd the last three years at the OHL.
o P/PR=76

Alex Cejka– $7,300 Well if you read closely Cejka showed up on the stats above a few times, plus he’s 2/2 last two cuts made at 27th and 29th and ½ here coming in 16th in 2014. Stat guy of the week and a decent price range.
o P/PR=75

Ryan Blaum– $6,900 Here’s a guy that’s made 5 cuts in a row, with three top 15’s, made the cut here last year, and mix that in with a few decent stats, this is turning out to be a nice player here at 6900.
o P/PR-69

Aaron Wise– $6,300 The reigning NCAA champion FINALLY makes this list, as I’ve been waiting for him to breakthrough. Maybe his top 10 last week, which got him into this field, will jump start his career, and his 2016-2017 season. Keep a close eye on this young talent.

Carlos Ortiz– $5,800 A few Mexican Born golfers in the field this week, and Ortiz is one of them. I like a “home field” advantage anytime, and Ortiz comes in with a top 10 here, placing 9th in 2014. He hasn’t played in about 5 weeks so not much recent form to go on, but I’ll play the home field advantage if I’m going this low.

Pick to Click: Koepka placed second so I earn my third top 5 of the season.
Winners picked this year: 1
Top 5 Picked- 3

Joh Rahm– $10,700 Placed 15th here as an amateur, and I can only imagine that with money on the line he finishes better than last year. I’ve got him taking home his first W of his career in Mexico.

Heading South – Fades
Nailed it last week. Walker missed the cut.

Chris Kirk– $9,600 awful weekend, like so bad, I think that continues this week in Mexico. Avoid.

The Pro Review: With a new year starting, I plan to update this regularly as lineup and roster construction is pivotal to everyone’s success in DFS.

% of field covered*(note because a lot of tournaments having several different field sizes I decided to change this to % of field covered. – 35%
Top Golfer % Owned- 63%
