The Daily Spin – The Sentry

Welcome to Year 10 of FGI! It is hard to believe that we are in our 10th full year of covering DFS golf. As the first site to specifically cover PGA DFS we have seen a lot of changes within the industry and now with the tour as a whole. There were just a couple of names in this space when we launched our venture in January of 2015 who covered golf peripherally and now there are probably 50 sites and countless podcasts that are fully dedicated to golf. While many of them provide a quality product, there are still no other sites that I use other than FGI for my weekly research. When it comes to the award winning columns, incredible tools from Aaron or our Slack community, I still think there is no better value for your money that what we offer right here. I would further put that claim behind our football product as well where FGI subscribers get a massive discount each year. Jeff is about to wrap up another year of profitable season long prop bets (5/5 winning years) and I am 12-5 for the season in cash games on DK.

We always pride ourselves on trying to make you the best fantasy manager possible. Because of that, I am always very transparent about my lineup every week in both PGA and NFL DFS. You will get a full rundown each week of my cash game roster, how I arrived at each player selection and the lessons that I learned from the experience. Like you, I still make mistakes. There are players that I look back at and cannot believe they made it into my player pool. When that happens, I will let you behind the curtain to see where things went pear shaped in my brain and what I can do to improve my process.

Golf is a game of patience whether you are on the course or in the DK trenches. We get a new course each week, different weather patterns and emerging or declining players and a brand new field for every tournament. There are more variables at play in this game than in any other fantasy sport. This is important to keep in mind throughout the year. As you approach the new season, the temptation will arise to come charging out of the gate, guns blazing and ready to fire half your bankroll at the first event of the year. Avoid this trap. You do not want to hit the end of January only to be depositing new funds onto DraftKings.

The way you avoid this type of mistake is by coming up with a meticulous plan of attack to work your way through the season. Find an amount you can comfortably put into play every week from here until the end of the Tour Championship or if you truly love the game, all the way through the Hero in December. Be ready for some ups and downs. Select an event or two where you can put a little extra into play for fun and then stay disciplined the rest of the year. If you get into a groove and build your bankroll, re-examine your weekly buy-in and make a small upward adjustment. If thing start slowly, be patient. You might run into a 3-4 week stretch where nothing seems to be going your way. Make sure your bankroll is the right size to whether a downturn. The last thing your want to do is to cut your play way back only to go on a big win streak, but not profit from it.

As always, use the community as a resource. We have a lot of very sharp minds in our Slack chat community. Many of them are there throughout the year and ready to chat about any number of different fantasy sports. If you are a single line type of player, you can always get great feedback there. We have guys who are six figure tournament winners that are always ready to give a little advice or guidance. Whatever you do, make sure that you are having fun with this. It is supposed to be a nice escape from the day to day grind, but if it becomes a grind, build in some time off to rest and refresh your mind. Despite the PGA Tour cramming in a tournament just about every week of the year, you can be selective like players on tour and only play when it is appealing to do so.

Thank you so much for being a part of Fantasy Golf Insider. It has been an amazing ride and I can’t wait to see what is in store for 2024!
