The Daily Spin – NFL Cash Game Focus – Week 12

Thanksgiving Weekend rolls along and what a ride it has already been these first couple of days. On Thursday, if you managed to jump in on some cash games and used the exact advice from my article, you spent your day feeling fat and happy on the couch as our players put together one solid effort after another on their way to making us some money by the end of the night without issue. We stacked up the two big names at running back and while we only saw big numbers out of Zeke, at 80% ownership, we simply could not pivot off of Kamara as the risk was too high for cash games to be off of him if he exploded. If you did not double up on the top backs, hopefully you also took my advice and leaned towards Julio at receiver. I think Michael Thomas is an outstanding player, but once Tre’Quan Smith was announced as being out for the game, it was going to be tough for Thomas to have a lot of room to roam free. The Falcons made Brees beat them with other players and beat them he did as he tossed four TDs to three players whose cumulative salaries for the season do not even equal what Drew made on Thursday night. Thomas again proved to be a good cash game fade as the Saints simply have too many mouths to feed and in a game where I felt that the Saints would have a substantial lead, there was never a need to force him the ball. All of our lower priced players put forth solid performances. We wouldn’t even have had a sweat if Kenny Golladay could have held on to that ball in the end zone against the Bears, but fortunately, we were never really in danger throughout the day which made for a much less stressful watching experience.

Heading into Week 12, we are finally coming towards the end of the bye portion of the season as the Rams and Chiefs are the last two teams to take their bye after putting on a wild and crazy performance last Monday night in one of the more memorable games in the history of the league. I love when the bye weeks come to an end as it opens up the player pool and helps to keep ownership less concentrated than during the middle of the season when there are a handful of players that every owner crowds in on for the week. It does make things a little bit tricky in having to choose from many of the elite players that will be available, but typically, there are matchups that help to point us in the right direction so I think that the larger the slate, the better advantage that we will have over our fellow owners during a given week.

This week, there are options as far as how you approach building your rosters. Once again, it is easy to go cheap at QB as there are several great option in and around the $6k mark. The difference from one to the next seems fairly marginal from an analytics perspective so you won’t be struggling with this decision too much. At defense, there is no super cheap option that makes a lot of sense and since I am tired of getting burned by cheap defenses this season, I am going to make sure that I have a playable unit this week that can get me 8-10 points. At TE, there are again some decent options if you want to pay down. Last week, in a rare instance where I paid up and took Zach Ertz, I was burned badly so it’s likely that one of the players that really stands out in the value range will be my pick this week. At the RB position, I don’t think this is a week where you have to pay up in order to find some big numbers. There are some really strong value options that I will be looking towards rather than trying to stack a couple of big names as we have done many weeks this season. I want to do that in order to get a couple of the big name wide receivers onto my roster this week. There are several big time WRs who have incredible matchups that I expect to play really well and who will also be rather heavily owned. If you elect to fade them, it could be a long day for you early on.
