Recap

It was another fun week of action for DFS and betting purposes, though my outrights fell back before Kiz made a late run to make it interesting on Sunday. The Wyndham Championship is always an event that I enjoy each summer for excitement around qualifying for the FedEx Cup Playoffs or seeing players battle to keep their tour card. With the virus, there were rules changes put in place to keep players on tour next year so that they will not lose their card this season, though they will have a little more trouble getting into events next season when the new members join the ranks this fall.

The tournament featured a very crowded leaderboard as we have come to expect and somehow at the end of it, Jim Herman, aka The Herminator, was the last man standing. Nobody ever sees the Herminator coming. He’s had three wins in recent years and none of them have come from him being in form or trending towards a victory. He just played very well the last two rounds shooting -16 over the last two days to finish with an incredible surge. I thought when he missed the short birdie putt on 16 that it was a done deal for Billy Horschel, but he stuck his approach on 17 and birdied and Billy hit a terrible tee shot on 16 and could not get up and down and suddenly, Herman was in the driver’s seat and Billy could not get the shot back he needed to sent it to a playoff.

It was another solid week for cash games. I had approached the week with the consideration that I would either use Webb Simpson to start my team or a Billy Horschel/Harris English stack. In the end, the balanced team of English, Horschel, Kisner, Moore, Niemann and Norlander looked better overall on paper for me, though the Webb lineup would have worked out just fine as well as Burns was the low priced golfer on that team and performed well. Billy Horschel played well and nearly provided me with having the winner on my cash roster for the third week in row. He is in the middle of a nice run of late where his short game has been outstanding. Harris English plodded along for much of the weekend, but did manage to lock up his 5th straight Top-25. Kevin Kisner played really well as expected and made a nice run late on Sunday to move all the way up to a 3rd place finish. Norlander and Niemann both made the cut, but neither could do much with their putter over the last two rounds and languished in the middle of the pack. The only real disappointment came from Ryan Moore who bogeyed two of the final five holes and could not make a birdie on the easy, Par 5, 15th hole to miss the cut by one stroke. If not for that, my roster would have had a chance to make a little noise in single entry contests over the weekend, but instead, I missed out on cashing by 2 points.
