RECAP

For some folks, today is a celebration while for others, it feels like a bitter defeat. If you are in a great mood today then you are going to be feeling great building lineups today. If you are struggling, I have good news. The Masters is next week. Not only is it next week, but it will be back again in five months to reward you for all of the patience that you showed this year! In all seriousness, I do my absolute best to give you guys a little retreat from the world each week so hopefully you get a chance to relax this weekend, watch a little golf and focus of something that is a lot more fun than politics.

Much like the election, last week was full of ups and downs. I started off feeling great about my team, my first three golfers made it safely through on Friday morning and I thought I had a real good shot at getting six to the weekend for my cash game team. Then the winds came in and took out Wes Bryan and Rob Oppenheim and I wrote my team off as a lost cause going into Saturday since I am always Team Legion of Doom when it comes to throwing in the towel early on a mediocre DFS roster. By Saturday, my golfers had moved up to the cusp of cashing and by Sunday, my little 4/6 lineup was one of the better cash game rosters in most contests.

I made a key decision last week that ended up paying off. My original roster was set to have HVIII and Adam Schenk, but I elected to pay up from Varner to Will Zalatoris and dropping down to Stewart Cink. For cash games, we are no worried about having a heavily owned player and in fact, I would rather go that route than being contrarian. I knew Will would have enormous ownership so fading him would be a silly risk in cash games. Plus, he has shown Top-10 upside just about every time we’ve seen him this year on tour. HVIII on the other hand, is a nice player, but does not normally finish near the top. You might get luck and he’ll give you a T17. Last week, the winds took him out badly on Friday so I was pleased to avoid that land mine. What was even better was watching Cink put on a show over the weekend. Him and Denny McCarthy, another cash game play, made big runs on Sunday to finish in 4th place while Zalatoris finished 15th. My other golfer was Beau Hossler. He worked up the standings early, but did not do a lot over the weekend and fell back to 26th. Not bad for the team overall and another winning week.
