The Daily Spin – DraftKings Preview – Bermuda Championship
RECAP
The ZOZO Championship provided us with the sort of exciting finish we were looking for on Sunday as JT, Rahm and Cantlay battled down the stretch with Patrick pulling off the win as Rahm missed two consecutive birdie putts at the end and JT could not get things going on Sunday in a spot where I considered him to be the favorite to get the win.
It was a profitable week for me in cash games and slightly profitable in GPP contests. I had some nice lineups in play going into Sunday, but many of my key players shut it down for the final round while everyone else was out shooting -5. I felt fortunate in that the players that I spent up for did not immediately fall to the bottom of the leaderboard as I’ve dealt with over the last few weeks, though I still did not get blockbuster performances either. The money was made for me in the value range once again. While the high dollar guys have not always panned out, we’ve been nailing our value picks and last week was no different.
I was surprised in cash games that the build was not more obvious for people. With golfers like Lanto, Munoz, Cam Smith, Brian Harman and Ryan Palmer all available in the low $7k range (pretty much the entire lower tier I wrote up for cash), it made the job of putting together a lineup really easy. You just had to decide how much you wanted to pay up at the top where it was easy to get JT, X or Webb (the three Top tier guys I wrote up) onto your roster. In the middle tier range, Bubba and Henley were obvious options along with Niemann, Fitz or English. X underperformed his price, but did fight back over the weekend, but that was about the biggest disappointment among the group of golfers I wrote up for cash game plays last week. Of the 12 players I wrote up for cash, the worst finish was from English who finished 28th. Like I always say, as long as you can avoid the player that falls straight to the bottom at a no cut event, you’re good to go for the week most of the time.
My lineup ended up being: Webb, Hovland, Bubba, Henly, Munoz and Griffin
I built it starting with Webb and then worked my way up from the bottom. For my last golfer, I had 9300 remaining. It came down to a choice between Hideki or Hovland and I settled on Hovland, though Hideki ended up 3.5 points higher. Overall, I was in good position all weekend. My team performed well and with my cheapest players leading the way early, I was never in a spot where I was even close to missing out on the money. It was a great week where everything finally went right. The only disappointment was that I did not have exposure to Cantlay in my player pool so my GPP upside was pretty well capped out.
