The Daily Spin – DraftKings Daily Fantasy Golf Preview Weekend Edition – WGC Bridgestone

Well that wasn’t so bad…at least so far. Usually, these no-cut events prove to be a little tougher on me than normal, but this week has gone well so far. Of the three star players that I invested in heavily, Rory and Jordan are both definitely in the mix after the first two rounds and even Rickie is still not out of the running. Our core is looking rock solid. Marc Leishman is the only disappointment so far, but we’ve seen him do amazing things on the weekends before so I am not counting him out of things quite yet and I have a great feeling that he is going to be impactful throughout the last two rounds so much so that he may just have slipped his way into tonight’s column. The rest of the core: Paul Casey, Daniel Berger, Alexander Noren, Charl Schwartzel, Thomas Pieters and Tommy Fleetwood are all lurking and each is still in contention so I could not be more excited about some of the things that are in play coming into the final two rounds.

Frankly, I am a little surprised that DraftKings is offering weekend contests in a no-cut event and yet, since there is money to be made, it does not shock me. What we need to do as owners when playing in contests like this is to realize that it is not the same as normal weeks. The size of the paycheck is much larger at the bottom this week which will create much less of a sense of urgency to fight back from where many players find themselves tonight. This will create the unfortunate situation where a lot of the players who are struggling will simply kick it in over the next couple of days rather than trying to move their way up the standings. This throws off our charts to some degree as there are some good players near the bottom that we would normally expect to rise, but given the difficulty of the course, and the fact that the payouts are larger than normal at the bottom and don’t rise too dramatically, I would expect less movement at the bottom than normal for this event and others with a similar format.

In taking a quick peak at the weather tomorrow, there is nothing in the forecast that looks too frightening. The winds will be around 10-15 mph for much of the day, but the players again will be teeing off in a tight two hour window so I do not see any point in trying to play one wave over another. For the most part, we are looking for players who can score more birdies relative to the rest of the field. We are not too worried about mistakes, we just need points. We also want to focus more on players who are still relatively in contention who will still have something to play for in the days ahead. I expect very little movement from the bottom 25-30 players in the standings, but up top, there should still be enough incentive to push forward.
