The Daily Spin – DraftKings Daily Fantasy Golf Preview Weekend Edition – The Memorial Tournament
Happy Friday evening to you, this is Jeff, filling in for Zach as he deservedly gets a night off to attend a concert. I probably did not have to tell you it was me, because you could probably guess based on this baby not being 10,000 words tonight.
Most of the time when I look back at contests, I usually can justify in my head why the outcome turned out like it did and start kicking myself for not knowing it would turn out that way. “His putter started to heat up last week”, “he flew across the world”, “he might have been injured”, “I can see how he would have played well this week”, etc, etc. “Damnit how did I not predict this”. This week Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm both missing the cut badly is not one of those times. No matter how much I think about it and try and figure out why, I just end up scratching my head. It is one of the very few times I am not beating myself up. I think the reason is because there simply is not a reason. Golf is a high variance sport and sometimes scenarios that make absolutely no sense are the outcome. There obviously was not a proposition bet on whether DJ and Rahm both miss the cut, but if there were, it would have been an astronomical number. For those of you like me who had large exposure to both, shake it off. This will not be the last time something like this happens over your career playing DFS golf.
Besides those two there have also been some other surprises. Obviously, Dufner, who crushed many of our lineups last week, murdering the field thus far is a bit surprising. An absolutely stellar Draftkings day from him today as he captured the 3 birdie streak bonus, bogey free round bonus, and the hole out eagle as the cherry on top. I am pretty confident he will not be finishing 28 under par this week. There are some studs lurking like Fowler, Spieth, and Thomas that could all be heard from before the week is over. Despite the craziness, both Zach and I had the vast majority of our core make the cut, which always gives us a fighting chance over the weekend. If your teams are definitely shot, I will do my absolute best to get you to the winners circle this weekend. Or if you have a shot with your normal teams, here is a chance to have a really giant week.
There are actually some real nice paydays available this weekend especially with the $100k Best Ball with an $8 entry fee offering 10K to the winner. Remember lineup lock is at 7:40 am eastern time.
As Zach does every week, I am going to look closely at weather, tee times, and odds vs pricing amongst other facts when deciding who to roster for the weekend slate.
