The Bullseye – DraftKings European Tour GPP Preview – Tshwane Open
It was a tough week for The Bullseye in Qatar, with several of my core plays missing the cut on the number. We also missed out on Eddie Pepperell’s first win, which was disappointing. In any event, I felt good about our core overall, and I managed to hit a nice top-20 bet on Andrea Pavan to cover some of the damage. Onward we march.
We head back to South Africa for the Tshwane Open, featuring an obviously week field since it’s up against the WGC-Mexico Championship. Our “headliners” this week include George Coetzee, Julian Suri, Alexander Bjork, and Erik van Rooyen. Again, the lack of brand names in this field should give us a bit of an edge in terms of handicapping the event.
This week’s venue in Waterkloof is a par-70, playing right around 7,000 yards. That’s not long by Tour standards, and it’s especially short considering the elevation at which the course sits. This means we don’t need to target bombers, per se. However, several bombers played well here last year, including champion Dean Burmester. Ultimately, I think accurate ball-strikers have the edge, and I’ll definitely be favoring the native Saffas. Scores are going to be fairly low, and I expect a winner between -15 and -18 this week. With much of the field filled with locals who don’t have much of a chance, handicapping the favorites will be key.
European Tour stats are notoriously unreliable, making it difficult to really pinpoint the type of players to target. There are also an influx of Asian Tour and Sunshine Tour players this week, making the statistical analysis doubly difficult. But here’s where I’m going to focus:
- Driving Accuracy
- Stroke Average
- Greens in Regulation
- Birdie Average
And now on to the picks!
