The Safeway Open went pretty much as expected with only a few unexpected missed cuts.  Brendan Steele was able to successfully defend his title and regular readers of this column know that I have a good track record of including the eventual winner within my picks.  Having the winner in your lineup can help offset another golfer in your lineup that may have had one of those unexpected missed cuts.  That is because the 20 fantasy points awarded for a first place finish are typically worth more than an entire round of golf from a pure fantasy scoring aspect.  Not to mention that only one golfer in the entire field gets these points as well.  Your GPP upside will still be limited with a golfer who misses the cut but cash games should still be intact.  This reiterates why proper allocation of your bankroll is so important every week.  I personally follow the 80/20 rule for the 10% of total bankroll I put in play each week.  Specifically, 80% of my 10% bankroll for the week is in cash games and the remaining 20% is in GPPs.  The thought process for this bankroll management strategy is simple.  Allow yourself to be rewarded for a really good week but at the same time not completely wiped out on an off week.  Over time you should see growth with your overall bankroll following this rule.

This week the PGA TOUR travels to Malaysia where the CIMB Classic has grown in reputation with golfers from all over the world.   The TPC Kuala Lumpur is a short par 72 which will be one of the easiest courses these golfers will play on all season.  Justin Thomas has won this event back-to-back with scores greater than 20 under so that should be the benchmark for what is needed to contend here, especially since he is in the field once again this year.  Overall, both strategic golfers and big hitters have succeeded here over the last four years but what is essential is a solid approach game to make the necessary birdies.

The FGI PGA Model is going to assist us with our lineup building process because it identifies the best golfers with solid Current Form and whose Key Stats set up nicely for the TPC Kuala Lumpur.  It also allows us to factor in Course History as well as an emphasis on Vegas (odds to win).  Below are the FGI PGA Model Overall weights I will be using this week along with the Key Stats weights for the CIMB Classic provided by our friends at Fantasy Golf Metrics:
