The first World Golf Championships event takes place this week and almost all the top golfers in the world will compete in Mexico City.  Only Justin Rose, Jason Day, Adam Scott and J.B. Holmes respectfully declined to participate after automatically qualifying.  Adam Hadwin, Brandt Snedeker and Si Woo Kim later took a pass on the guaranteed south of the border as they were a few of the first alternates outside the top 50 in the latest Official World Golf Ranking that are being used to fill the expanded field this year.  That opened the door for European Tour players Adrian Otaegui and Ryan Fox though, and they will happily make the trip to Mexico City in what will probably be a valuable experience for them both.  The World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship returns to the Club de Golf Chapultepec for the third straight year.  Played at 7,500 feet above sea level, the course plays much shorter than the 7,345 yards it measures at.  Distance control will be key for golfers looking to be in contention come Sunday afternoon.  The general estimate for players and caddies is that the ball will travel roughly 10% further than it does at sea level.  A solid tee-to-green game is necessary since tall trees surround most of the holes and landing the ball close to the pin will help reduce the pressure of putting on the stingy greens.  Ultimately, the golfers who figure out their distances the quickest and convert on their scoring chances within 10 feet will be the ones at the top of the leaderboard.
