The Florida Swing begins with The Honda Classic this week and PGA National’s Champion Course continues to be one of the hardest par 70 courses on the PGA TOUR.   Winds typically play a factor here and could lead to a big score, but they are not expected to be that strong this week.  Overall, PGA National’s Champion Course is a stock par 70 that now measures 7,125 yards in length.   That is because the par-3 17th hole has a new tee box closer to the green and is down 15 yards from the usual 190 yards.  The Bear Trap (holes 15, 16 & 17) remains one of the most difficult three hole stretches in golf, especially over the weekend for anyone in contention.  Damage control is probably the most important thing on these holes because almost everyone runs into trouble there.  This course ultimately requires accuracy off the tee and a solid tee-to-green game.  The patient golfers that also have a little bit of experience under pressure are generally the ones in contention over the weekend.
