Bethpage State Park’s Black Course will host the 101st edition of the PGA Championship as it shifts to its new slot of the schedule and becomes the second major of the season after the Masters.  Bethpage State Park’s Black Course is a par 70 that measures 7,459 yards in length and last hosted The Barclays in 2016 when it played as a par 71.  Patrick Reed came out on top back then and much of the leaderboard behind him featured golfers with an accurate approach game, so that tells us a little something about what it takes to succeed here.  Much like at the Quail Hollow Club two weeks ago, golfers who are long and accurate off the tee will likely play well this week, but those who also have an accurate approach game will be the ones threatening to win.  Finally, the current weather forecast for Farmingdale, New York calls for temperatures in the 60s with a chance of PM rain during Friday’s opening round of the tournament.  Winds should be light to moderate.
