Before last year’s inaugural event on the PGA TOUR, the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship was part of the Web.com Tour schedule in 2017 and 2016.  It is currently under contract through the 2020-21 season to be the alternate event alongside the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.  The Corales Golf Club is a stock par 72 that measures 7,670 yards in length and will be one of the easiest courses these golfers see all year.  There is plenty of room off the tee so big hitters will have an advantage on the wider fairways.  Overall, tee-to-green specialists will see plenty of scoring opportunities and those are the type of golfers that should be targeted this week.

Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship WDs as of 3/26/2019:  Angel Cabrera, Ken Duke and Shaun Micheel

Jhonattan Vegas leads Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship field in salaries with a moderate $11,400 price tag.  He is coming off a T3 finish at THE PLAYERS Championship and has really started to put his complete game together.  Vegas did not play in this event last year, but he should be bombs away at the very gettable Corales Golf Club.  Sungjae Im slots in next at $11,300 and should be also be strongly considered as a DFS option this week as the co-betting favorite.  Charl Schwartzel and Denny McCarthy round out the $11k salary tier for the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.  Schwartzel continues to look for consistency with his game where as McCarthy is coming off a T9 finish at the Valspar Championship last week.  He is also returning to the Corales Golf Club after finishing solo 4th here last year.  It should surprise no one if he is able to get into contention once again this time around.

Recommended golfers for the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship for both Cash games and GPPs:

Jhonattan Vegas – $11,400:  Jhonattan Vegas may be at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship because he missed out in playing at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, but he appears to be in good form once again and should take this event seriously to once again make a climb in the Official World Golf Rankings.  Vegas is a previous PGA TOUR winner and the Corales Golf Club should be to his liking this week.  He is the field leader in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee and that will be advantageous here.  Vegas also has a solid approach game and a decent putter right now so it should surprise no one if his name is at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon.

Sungjae Im – $11,300:  Sungjae Im is the other top golfer this week for the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.  He comes in with plenty of momentum too after finishing T4 at the Valspar Championship last week.  A T3 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational a couple of weeks earlier shows that his game is close for a possible breakthrough win any event now.  Im is also a field leader in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee this season and should be a serious threat to win the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.

Also consider:

Denny McCarthy – $11,000

Nate Lashley – $10,800:  Nate Lashley won the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in 2017 while it was an event on the Web.com Tour and he technically defended that title last year with a respectable T28 finish.  Hopefully his familiarity with the Corales Golf Club benefits him once again this year because he needs to finish no worse than solo 25th place to fulfill the terms of a Minor Medical Extension.  Lashley comes with a high floor and high ceiling which makes him ideal for both cash games and GPPs.

Graeme McDowell – $10,600:  Graeme McDowell is motivated to get his game going at a high level once again and will look to make the best of his time in the Dominican Republic this week.  Last year he missed the cut at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship, but hopefully the course experience at the Corales Golf Club will help him this trip.  McDowell has only missed one cut on the PGA TOUR this season and showed top 20 upside at The RSM Classic and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.  He enjoys seaside golf and can adjust his game if the conditions get windy at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.

Also consider:

Aaron Baddeley – $10,900

Trey Mullinax – $10,300

Dylan Frittelli – $10,200

Joel Dahmen – $9,900:  Joel Dahmen comes into the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship off a T30 finish at the Valspar Championship.  Prior to that he finished T12 at THE PLAYERS Championship.  Dahmen’s game appears to be back on track after a string of missed cuts.  He also has positive course experience at the Corales Golf Club.  Dahmen finished T13 here last year and T11 back in 2016 while on the Web.com Tour.  His $9,900 FanDuel salary is a nice price for the the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship this week.

Corey Conners – $9,600:  Corey Conners displayed some of his good form once again at THE PLAYERS Championship a couple of weeks ago.  He made the weekend at TPC Sawgrass and eventually finished T41.  Now Conners seems primed for a nice showing again at the Corales Golf Club.  A T13 finish last year shows that his length of the tee and solid approach game go well here.  Conners makes for a nice mid-$9k fantasy option on FanDuel for the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.

Brian Stuard – $9,100:  Brian Stuard is coming off a T18 finish at the Valspar Championship last week and should feel good about his game heading into the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in the Dominican Republic.  He has quietly been having a solid season having made seven of eight cuts recently that started at the Sony Open in Hawaii where he finished T8.  Stuard is a field leader in Strokes Gained: Approach and Putting so he should easily make the weekend at the Corales Golf Club and hopefully find himself in the mix come Sunday afternoon.  Stuard also plays well in tropical locations and that experience could come in handy if the weather gets a little windy or rainy during the tournament.  Priced just above $9k on FanDuel, Stuard makes for an outstanding play given his recent form and weak strength of field this week.

Also consider:

Fabian Gomez – $9,800

Julian Etulain – $9,700

Dominic Bozzelli – $9,500

Adam Schenk – $9,400

Shawn Stefani – $8,200:  Every now and then the FanDuel pricing algorithm offers a mispriced golfer based on his odds to win.  This week Shawn Stefani’s odds to win are not reflected in his $8,200 FanDuel salary and should be a solid DFS option with that price.  He finished T13 at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship last year and earlier this season he finished T6 at the Puerto Rico Open, another similar alternate event like this.  Stefani clearly offers great upside this week at a significantly reduced salary.

Also consider:

Johnson Wagner – $8,900

Brice Garnett – $8,300

Seungsu Han – $8,100

“FanDuel $7k Special”:

D.J. Trahan – $7,500:  D.J. Trahan’s last PGA TOUR start resulted in a T16 at the Puerto Rico Open and prior to that finished T18 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.  He made the cut at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship last year.  Trahan could easily make the weekend again since he has been showing good overall form as of late, specifically at seaside courses.

“FanDuel Fade” for the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship:

Note: This golfer is my personal fade this week however I would not put anyone off that wanted some exposure to him in GPPs.

Tony Romo – $7,000:  This is not 2014 NFL DFS.

Good luck.
