65 of the Top 100 golfers in the Official World Golf Rankings make up a field of 76 that will take on the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio for the final World Golf Championships event of the year, the Bridgestone Invitational.  For those unfamiliar with WGC events, these are no cut events and the only way to not accumulate fantasy points during the week is if a golfer from your lineup decides to withdraw from the event after teeing off.   I personally still have a bad taste in my mouth from this event last year because I rostered both Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger, both of whom withdrew during Round 1.  This just ruined my fantasy experience for the week and did not make watching the tournament much enjoyable either.  There is no recovery from one let alone two golfers putting the big fat “WD” in your lineup so this is something to be mindful of as you are considering your bankroll allotment for the week.  With the fourth and final major of the season next week, there is really no reason to go overboard with your bankroll this week and quite frankly scaling it back a bit makes a lot of sense.

The Firestone Country Club is the venue once again for the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational and it is a tree lined course with not much room off of the tee.  One would think that would mean the more strategic golfer would find success here but that really is not the case.  The previous six winners here are Dustin Johnson, Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Keegan Bradley, and Adam Scott.  They all had something in common en route to victory and that was hitting the ball as far and accurate as possible.  This is the type of golfer we want to be targeting this week for our FanDuel lineups but also keeping in mind a few that are not because they have good course history here.  After all, there can only be one winner each week.

As always, the FGI PGA Model is going to assist us with our lineup building process because it identifies the best golfers with solid Current Form and whose Key Stats set up nicely for the Firestone Country Club.  It also allows us to factor in Course History as well as an emphasis on Vegas (odds to win).  Below are the FGI PGA Model Overall weights I will be using this week along with the Key Stats weights for the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational provided by our friends at Fantasy Golf Metrics:

FGI PGA Model Overall weights:

                Current Form: 35%

                Key Stats: 30%

                Vegas: 25%

                Course History: 10%

FGI PGA Model Key Stats weights:

                SGT2G: 30%

                SGP: 20%

                DD: 5%
