The third major of 2017 is almost here and my job is help you navigate through a loaded field and find the top plays for your FanDuel lineups this week.  The Open is shaping to be one of the best weeks of golf in a long time.  Some of the world’s finest golfers are having difficulties putting their complete game together while several of the young studs have theirs peaking at the right time.  Weather will surely have an impact at The Open as it typically does so it is only a matter of time until we find out which golfers will have Lady Luck on their side and avoid the worst conditions.  Hopefully it will not be as bad as it was back in 2008 when The Open was last played at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club where Padraig Harrington won with a low score of +3.  Either way, scoring opportunities will be limited so finishing points will be at a premium this week.  These are just a few factors that will go into determining which golfers we select for our lineups this week.

As I previously mentioned, the Royal Birkdale GC is once again the venue for this year’s Open and many consider this to be one of the fairer courses on the circuit.  It is a Par 70 that is just over 7000 yards and the first of two Par 5’s does not show up until the 15th hole.  Golfers will need to be cautious off of the tee and avoid bunkers to properly setup their second shot.  Those who are able to land their approach shots close to the pin will find themselves saving par more often than not and hopefully scoring the occasional birdie.

As always, the FGI PGA Model is going to assist us with our lineup building process because it identifies the best golfers with solid Current Form and whose Key Stats set up nicely for the Royal Birkdale GC.  It also allows us to factor in The Open History as well as an emphasis on Vegas (odds to win).  Below are the FGI PGA Model Overall weights I will be using this week along with the Key Stats weights for The Open provided by our friends at Fantasy Golf Metrics:

FGI PGA Model Overall weights:

                Current Form: 30%

                Key Stats: 35%

                Vegas: 15%

                The Open History: 20%

FGI PGA Model Key Stats weights:

                SGT2G: 30%

                SGP: 15%

                DD: 5%

                PROX: 15%

                BOB%: 20%

                SCRAM: 15%
