The 4th and final Major of the season is now here and the PGA Championship will be played at a familiar golf course, the Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte, NC. The Quail Hollow typically hosts the Wells Fargo Championship in early May but it gets one of the grandest stages this year. There will be many storylines this week but one probably no bigger than Jordan Spieth and his first shot to become one of the newest members of golf’s exclusive career Grand Slam club. If he is able to convert at Quail Hollow, he would not only be the youngest to do so, but also join Tiger Woods, Gene Sarazen, and Ben Hogan as the only players to accomplish the career Grand Slam on their first attempt. In terms of FanDuel strategy this week, there is plenty of value to build our lineups with so spending up for one or two of the top studs will not be an issue. The soft pricing this week is mainly due to the early salary release that FanDuel did prior to the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational last week. Since then, we have learned a lot more about the golfers that competed there and how their games will translate to the recently renovated Quail Hollow. Finally, Majors are also times to flex a little more bankroll out there because the contests are bigger and have larger payouts which usually attracts more casual DFS players that will not have the same data and information that we do. With only one regular season event remaining after the PGA Championship, now is the time to take full advantage of that.
As I just alluded to, the Quail Hollow Country Club underwent a major renovation since it last hosted the Wells Fargo Championship in 2016. Holes 1, 2 and 5 saw the biggest changes and Bermuda rough now surrounds the greens. The course is also playing very soft right now due to the amount of recent rainfall and more is expected in the future. Overall, keeping the ball on the fairways along with scrambling will be crucial if a golfer is looking to contend this week at the PGA Championship.
