The Dell Technologies Championship, formally known as the Deutsche Bank Championship, is the second tournament of the FedExCup Playoffs.  It features a Friday start and a Labor Day finish so we will have an extra day to prepare before lineups lock.  96 of the top 100 golfers in FedExCup points will tee it up at the TPC Boston in Norton, Massachusetts with the top 70 after this event advancing to the third tournament in two weeks.  The standard cut rule of top 70 and ties will be in place once again after Round 2 but with only 96 golfers in the field, the typical advantage we get with a cut is severely diminished.  In fact, this event is more similar to a no cut event except the only thing worse than a golfer in your lineup finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard is one who falls victim to the small cut and is not able to accumulate any more fantasy points going forward.  The TPC Boston has also seen a wide variety of golfers finish at the top of the leaderboard over the years.  Bombers and strategic golfers can all find success here so quite frankly there are no obvious “must plays” for me this week after the top tier of golfers.  The FedExCup Playoffs typically elevate a golfer’s game though so I will be focusing on those who have been displaying excellent form over the past couple of events.

The TPC Boston will play as a Par 71 course at 7,342 yards and the rough around here is typically snarly but playable.  Again with both bombers and strategic golfers in play this week, the ones with a tidy short game will be the ones who separate themselves from the pack and the ones we want to be targeting.  Accurate approach shots from the fairway will also play a significant role this week along with Birdie or Better Percentage because the winning score will probably be in the mid to high teens.

As always, the FGI PGA Model is going to assist us with our lineup building process because it identifies the best golfers with solid Current Form and whose Key Stats set up nicely for the TPC Boston.  It also allows us to factor in Course History as well as an emphasis on Vegas (odds to win).  Below are the FGI PGA Model Overall weights I will be using this week along with the Key Stats weights for the Dell Technologies Championship provided by our friends at Fantasy Golf Metrics:

 FGI PGA Model Overall weights:

                Current Form: 30%

                Key Stats: 35%

                Vegas: 15%

                Course History: 20%

FGI PGA Model Key Stats weights:

                SGT2G: 30%

                SGP: 20%

                DA: 10%

                P200+: 10%

                BOB%: 25%

                SCRAM: 5%

DJ and Spieth had to battle it out in a playoff last week at THE NORTHERN TRUST before a winner was determined.  DJ ultimately came out on top but both are firmly in play to start your lineup with because both are considered the betting favorites this week and are in peak form.  In fact, a DJ and Spieth stack is definitely possible with plenty of value options available on FanDuel.  We are seeing a lot of elite golfers elevating their games right now though so the next tier below DJ and Spieth are also in play.  Rory might be the only golfer not on my short list at the top of the market this week because he is admittedly playing through a rib injury that is preventing him from competing at the top of his game right now.  Of course a 75% Rory McIlroy is better than most of the golfers this week but our money will be better spent on a surging Jason Day or the 2015 winner Rickie Fowler.
