Stat Boy’s Weekend Warriors – The American Express

The American Express Leaderboard Heading into the Weekend:
After opening 2021 with a T5 finish at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and then a T56 finish last week at the Sony Open in Hawaii, Sungjae Im had little problems getting around in La Quinta, California during the opening rounds of The American Express when he shot a round one 4-under 68 and followed that up with blistering a 7-under 65 in round two. Im will enter the weekend as the solo leader at the Stadium Course at PGA WEST. After shaking off the rust at the Sentry Tournament of Champions with a T31 finish, Tony Finau continued his great form Thursday and Friday at The American Express when he shot a total of 10-under par. He sits at T2 on the leaderboard after two rounds of play. Abraham Ancer had an unusual missed cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii but that did not seem to bother him during the first two rounds at PGA WEST. He finished in solo 2nd place in this event last year and joins Finau at T2 after 36 holes at The American Express heading into the weekend. Emiliano Grillo continues to impress on the golf course after firing 9-under par thus far. He is joined by Francesco Molinari and Doug Ghim at T7 on The American Express leaderboard. Patrick Reed, Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka, Russell Henley and last week’s Sony Open in Hawaii winner, Kevin Na, all made too many mistakes to get a weekend tee time at the Stadium Course at PGA WEST. The weather in La Quinta, California should continue to produce low scores over the weekend and with another bunched-up leaderboard, an exciting conclusion at The American Express should be in the works.
Round 1 Scoring Avg: 70.724
Round 2 Scoring Avg: 71.256
