Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Leaderboard Heading into the Weekend:

After a T43 finish at the U.S. Open to begin his 2020-21 PGA TOUR season, Patrick Cantlay was happy to be back at TPC Summerlin where he has not finished worse than 2nd in three appearances.  He got off to a fast start in Las Vegas, Nevada when he shot a round one 8-under 63 at and followed that up with a 6-under 65 in round two.  Cantlay will enter the weekend tied with the lead after 36 holes at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.  Joining Cantlay are Martin Laird, Brian Harman, Austin Cook and Peter Malnati as they also got off to fast starts at TPC Summerlin.  They sit one stroke ahead of Bryson DeChambeau on the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open leaderboard.  After winning the Sanderson Farms Championship last week, Sergio Garcia remained hot during the opening rounds at TPC Summerlin.  He sits along with James Hahn, Nate Lashley, Stewart Cink, Wyndham Clark and Sungjae Im at T7 on the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open leaderboard heading into the weekend.  Harold Varner III continued his solid form after finishing T29 last time out at the Safeway Open.  He is joined by Sepp Straka, Brice Garnett and Dylan Frittelli at T13 on the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open leaderboard.  According to @PGATOURComms, “The 36-hole cut of 7-under 135 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open marks the low 36-hole cut relative to par on the PGA TOUR on record (1970-present).”  That of course means that there were many notable missed cuts this week including Collin Morikawa and Hideki Matsuyama.  66 golfers still have weekend tee times though and plenty of scoring should be on tap at TPC Summerlin on Saturday and Sunday.  The bunched-up leaderboard will also make for an outstanding finish at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
