Stat Boy’s Weekend Warriors – Palmetto Championship

By Erik Dantoft

Palmetto Championship Leaderboard Heading into the Weekend:

Chesson Hadley has his A+ game so far at the Palmetto Championship this week.  He showcased all his abilities during the opening rounds when he shot a round one 6-under 65 and followed that up with a 5-under 66 in round two.  Hadley will enter the weekend as the 36-hole leader at Congaree Golf Club.  Harris English showed no signs of slowing down after a T64 finish at the PGA Championship last time out and a T13 finish at the AT&T Byron Nelson before that when he shot a total of 6-under par on Thursday and Friday at the Palmetto Championship.  He is currently T4 on the leaderboard after two rounds of play in Ridgeland, South Carolina.  Apparently, missing the cut last time out at the PGA Championship was nothing to worry about for Dustin Johnson as he showed off his typical elite tee-to-green game during the first two rounds at Congaree Golf Club.  DJ will enter the weekend in solo 2nd place and should have no issues overcoming the two-stroke advantage Chesson Hadley currently has.  Erik Van Rooyen also impressed on the golf course after he also fired 6-under par thus far and joins Harris English, Chez Reavie, Pat Perez, Seamus Power and Wilco Nienaber at T4 on the Palmetto Championship leaderboard heading into the weekend.  Brooks Koepka, Alex Noren, Harold Varner III, Patton Kizzire, Keith Mitchell, Lucas Glover, Kevin Kisner and Luke List all made too many mistakes and will not get a weekend tee time at Congaree Golf Club.  The weather in Ridgeland, South Carolina is expected to be more of the same over the weekend so hopefully an exciting conclusion with plenty of Weekend Golf scoring is on the way.

Stat Boy’s Weekend Warriors for the Palmetto Championship:

Dustin Johnson – $10,600:  Dustin Johnson had two outstanding rounds so far in Ridgeland, South Carolina and overall is currently averaging +4.59 strokes gained tee-to-green and +1.35 strokes gained putting at the Palmetto Championship.  He is enjoying the difficult test at Congaree Golf Club and should remain in contention during rounds three and four.  DJ is currently in solo 2nd place and is more than capable of two more low rounds over the weekend as he looks to win in Ridgeland, South Carolina before heading off to the U.S. Open next week.

Tyrrell Hatton – $10,200:  Tyrrell Hatton is currently T17 on the leaderboard at Congaree Golf Club and makes for a great Weekend Golf play due to his respectable implied chance of winning the Palmetto Championship still (3.39%).  In other words, Hatton is “expected” to gain some ground over the weekend in Ridgeland, South Carolina and remain in the mix.  That also means that a particularly good Weekend Golf fantasy score would be on the way too.

Harris English – $9,900:  Harris English displayed his great form from earlier in the season in Ridgeland, South Carolina when he shot 6-under par during the opening rounds of the Palmetto Championship.  He demonstrated a good grasp on how to attack Congaree Golf Club as he averaged +2.40 strokes gained tee-to-green thus far and his putter should remain hot over the weekend (+2.05 SG: P).  English currently sits T4 on the leaderboard and will hopefully remain in contention while racking up some Weekend Golf fantasy points at the Palmetto Championship.

Garrick Higgo – $9,400:  Garrick Higgo continues to golf at a high level and is currently T10 on the leaderboard at the Palmetto Championship.  His tee-to-green game has been outstanding having averaged +4.23 strokes gained tee-to-green so far.  Higgo’s putting should pick up over the weekend after putting below average during the opening rounds (-0.29 SG: P).  He is making the most his visit to Ridgeland, South Carolina and has a 3.54% implied chance of winning at Congaree Golf Club.

Also consider:

Ian Poulter – $9,700

Matt Fitzpatrick – $9,300

Doc Redman – $9,200

Erik Van Rooyen – $8,300:  Erik Van Rooyen’s tee-to-green game was impressive during the opening rounds of the Palmetto Championship (+2.09 SG: T2G).  He is currently T4 while averaging +1.29 strokes gained approach and gaining a handful of strokes in the putting department at +2.35 strokes gained putting.  If Van Rooyen can maintain his tee-to-green game and stay hot with the flat stick, then he could be in for a nice weekend and win at Congaree Golf Club.

Patrick Rodgers – $8,200:  Patrick Rodgers is currently T10 at Congaree Golf Club as of Friday evening and should be feeling confident about his game.  He shot a total of 5-under par during the first two rounds while averaging +5.25 strokes gained tee-to-green and losing strokes to the field on the greens (-1.31 SG: P).  Rodgers has made some nice runs over the weekend before and another one could be in order if his putter shows any signs of life at the Palmetto Championship.

Also consider:

Jhonattan Vegas – $8,800

Nick Taylor – $8,500

Seamus Power – $7,900:  Seamus Power is in contention as he currently is T4 on the Palmetto Championship leaderboard heading into the weekend.  His $7.9k salary sets him up to be a chalky, but worthy Weekend Golf play over on DraftKings.  He is clearly playing quality golf right now at Congaree Golf Club after shooting 6-under par thus far.  His tee-to-green game is firing on all cylinders right now (+2.91 SG: T2G) and that should help him maintain his pace over the weekend in Ridgeland, South Carolina.  If his putter stays hot (+1.53 SG: P), then two rounds in the 60s for Weekend Golf should be on the way…

Chesson Hadley – $7,800:  Chesson Hadley had his tee-to-green game working during the opening rounds of the Palmetto Championship.  He averaged +4.00 strokes gained tee-to-green while gaining +2.94 strokes putting at Congaree Golf Club.  He has a 19.98% implied chance of winning in Ridgeland, South Carolina and with only a $7,800 salary, Hadley just might be too good to pass up for Weekend Golf.

Wilco Nienaber – $6,800:  Wilco Nienaber is currently T4 heading into the weekend at the Palmetto Championship and makes for a solid Weekend Golf play since he has a decent implied chance of winning the tournament (3.02%).  Simply put, oddsmakers like Nienaber’s chances over the weekend and should keep his tee-to-green and putter going (+3.05 SG: T2G & +1.40 SG: P).  That also should translate into an especially good Weekend Golf fantasy score at Congaree Golf Club.

Also consider:

Pat Perez – $7,700

Chez Reavie – $7,200

Henrik Norlander – $6,700

Good luck.
