Stat Boy’s Weekend Warriors – Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship

By Erik Dantoft

Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship Leaderboard Heading into the Weekend:

After a T6 finish at the U.S. Open last week, Will Zalatoris was hoping to get his first PGA TOUR victory at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.  Unfortunately, Zalatoris will most likely have to wait until later in the fall for that opportunity as he shot a round one 2-under 70 at Corales Golf Course and followed that up with a 1-under 71 in round two to make the cut on the number.  Zalatoris will at least have the opportunity to play additional golf during the weekend which only bodes well for his development at this level.  Hudson Swafford however got off to a fast start at Corales Golf Course which featured three straight birdies to end his day on Friday.  He is alone in 1st place with a two-stroke lead on the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship leaderboard.  After a T13 finish at the U.S. Open, Adam Long came to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with another PGA TOUR victory on his mind and brought his “A” game.  He sits along with Mackenzie Hughes, Xinjun Zhang and Sepp Straka at T5 on the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship leaderboard heading into the weekend.  Luke List is building off his made cut at the Safeway Open last time out and fired 10-under par thus far.  He is joined by Sean O’Hair and Justin Suh at T2 on the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship leaderboard.  Corey Conners, Charles Howell III and Branden Grace all failed to make the cut at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship but will at least be able to spend the rest of their weekend in the Caribbean.  Plenty of scoring should be in the weekend forecast at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship so all signs point to a fantastic finish in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Round 1 Scoring Avg:  71.069

Round 2 Scoring Avg:  71.232
