Bonus Model Targets – RSM Classic

The last full field event of 2016 heads down to Georgia for the RSM Classic. Don’t forget, the European Tour starts their new season in two weeks! Don’t forget to check out our great content for across the pond as a great fill-in during the PGA downtime. Fingers are highly crossed for larger DFS contests during this time with no PGA and football winding down.

Last week on the PGA, we nailed Pat Perez as one our top plays as he cruised to a two shot victory after firing a 62 on Saturday. The rest of my top plays and fades were a mixed bag with some performing well and others doing the opposite of expectations (Harris English) Lets finish the 2016 calendar season strong with some of the top guys I’m playing and avoiding this week:

Top Plays

Whee Kim: Continuing the trend of my top value play of the week, Kim is my guy. All the tools and ability on course he should be able to navigate well. Ignoring the MC last year as I fire him up on all of my rosters this week.

Russell Henley: Might go overlooked this week with the highest salary guys above him and the likes of Furyk, Haas and Zach right around him. I prefer Henley out of these four, especially if avoiding the others at the top. Russ has two consecutive top-tens here over his last two starts.

Kevin Streelman: Streels has come around in his two of his last three starts. Making all of his cuts and carding bookend top-20 finishes. This is another great set up for him this week on a course he finished 6th on back in 2011 when it was the McGladrey Classic and came into that event in similar form.

Other plays I like (in order of preference):

  • Nick Taylor
  • Jim Herman
  • John Huh
  • Matt Jones
  • Troy Merritt

Fades?

Luke List: This might come back to bite me as List has been playing some of the best golf in the field over recent weeks with three straight top-15 finishes. We’ve know the talent has been there, the question is the consistency? I’m not yet a buyer, especially at an elevated salary.

Chris Kirk: With all the options at the top and a wide open field, a stance has to be taken somewhere. Mine is with avoiding Kirk who comes into Georgia with great form. He’s now facing a slightly deeper field and I have little confidence that he performs to expectations of a top level golfer this week.

Others I will be avoiding or have very limited exposure:

  • Charles Howell
  • Hudson Swafford
  • Ryan Blaum

Please note: These are my early week opinions on players that I like after going through the weekly model and analyzing certain criteria important to my DFS process. My opinion and selections may change for various reasons including roster construction, game theory, golfer news and more.

Best of luck this week!
