Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Wyndham Championship
The Wyndham Championship is the event this week serving as the bridge to the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Not necessarily a loaded field , but the added element of it being the last event to qualify for the playoffs adds some intrigue. Remember that there are only three FedEx Cup Playoff events this year with the new PGA Schedule and The Northern Trust kicks it off next week. Let’s be honest though, the highlight of the week are the bikini wearing models frolicking on the beach scene that Wyndham sets up every year. Sedgefield Country Club is a unique course and I will break down what type of golfer I will be targeting as well as talk about game theory, strategy, and my player core. First however, let’s recap last week.
What went right? The middle to lower dollar portion of my core last week held up their end of the bargain as Billy Horschel finished T9, Cabrera Bello finished T12, Reed finished T12, Webb 2nd, Watson T9, and Fitzpatrick finished T4 all were outstanding, outproduced their price, and gave us a chance to hit our GPPs.
What went wrong? The middle and top part of our core. Even the guys that played o.k. like Cantlay (T12) and Rose (11th) were not able to get into the winners circle, which is what we needed from one of the many guys I owned in the $9k range. I felt like we would have a few of them in contention on Sunday, but as it turned out none of them were. Schauffele, Matsuyama, DeChambeau, Scott, Day, and Casey were all terrible, bottom line. I missed again on Brooks, which is very frustrating and it becomes hard to predict the “care factor” with him. I guess you need to roster Koepka at majors and WGCs and nowhere else. Without Koepka and with very few of our mid range guys doing anything, we had little chance of competing for a GPP win on Sunday and unfortunately it was one of the few weeks we have had this season that were not profitable at all. We are looking for a big week over the next four to close out the season and this could be it this week. Good luck my friends!
