Jeff’s Hardcore Core- WGC Mexico
It was a disappointing week for me last week, not because I did so poorly or even lost money. As a matter of fact, I was up a little more than $5k on the week. It was disappointing because not very often do you hit your core so hard and have a shot at a really huge payday and unfortunately I came up short. Fortunately I heard from a ton of FGI members who all won some money last week as well and that makes me feel better.
What went right? The two guys who I owned up top proved to be the highest DK point scorers in that range-Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy. Obviously being high on J.B Holmes when he is owned by 2% of the field is going to be monstrous, which it was. Marc Leishman was another contrarian play that worked out well. Luke List posting a Top 15 finish for $7,400 was excellent. Even Tony Finau and Patrick Cantlay who did not perform as well as I hoped, both were far from disastrous , putting up T15 finishes.
What went wrong? Of course we always have some guys hurt us and last week the biggest offenders were Louis Oosthuizen and Sungjae Im who both missed the cut. Thankfully I didn’t have a tremendous amount of exposure to either. We talk about this every week, but be sure you are using our ownership projections to help guide you as to what it takes for you to be overweight certain players. I see far to often folks owning 30, 40, or 50% of a player that is owned by 10% of the field. To be 2X overweight, you only need 20% exposure. Much more than that and you are overexposing your rosters and your weekly bankroll.
Last week was great and I hope to keep the momentum going this week into the small field, no-cut WGC event, which we have had a lot of success with over the years. If you have any questions for me, just ask. I am here to help you anyway I can.
Best of luck this week Team FGI!
