Jeff’s Hardcore Core- WGC Bridgestone Invitational

If you put a scrubs and scrubs team together last week you finished better than if you put a stars and scrubs team together as just about every one of the top priced guys disappointed.  Only two out of the seventeen players included in the Hardcore Core last week missed the cut.  It was a smaller field, which made it easier to get guys through the cut, but only missing on two is outstanding.  Despite getting so many guys through, very few of them made a charge over the weekend to help put us over the top and have a chance at winning a large field GPP.  The highlights included Harold Varner III (7^th), Robert Garrigus (T8), David Hearn (T12), Hudson Swafford (T21), Daniel Summerhays (T21), and Wesley Bryan (T29).  If you are like me, you paired those guys with Reed and Woodland who disappointed us greatly.  I really felt like their high skill level would dominate the very mediocre field that was present at Quicken Loans.  Alas those who selected guys like Billy Hurley, Vijay Singh, Francesco Molinari and Ernie Els were rewarded in the end last week.  These sorts of wacky results happen occasionally in DFS Golf and we have to accept that variance.  Ultimately, those people who rostered those players will continue to do so in the future and we will punish them for it with well-constructed lineups.

This week for the WGC Bridgestone, if you are playing in the large field GPPs, you are going to need to seek some players that will be low owned.  There are only 60 players in the field and frankly I would be comfortable shaving off about 15 of those players as possible options.  With that being the case there are going to be a lot of duplicate lineups. Be sure to take a look at our ownership prediction page this week. It is extremely difficult to predict ownership in these types of fields, but we are usually pretty accurate.  It is going to take some bold plays this week and you will see several of them in my Hardcore Core.  Just simply playing chalk is not going to get it done this week.
