Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Wells Fargo Championship

Despite the painful stopping and starting of play because of weather, The Hardcore Core not only survived but thrived for the three round Zurich Classic.  I was rooting hard at the end, because we had An and Lovemark, so a win would have been a cherry on top, but alas, it was Brian Stuard and his .6% owners who were elated.  Even though we did not have the winner, we hit just about everything else: Lovemark and An (T2), Kizzire (T8), Howell III (T11), Leishman, Berger, Hearn, Woodland (T20), and Hoffman, Martin, and Toms got through the cut for us.  The only real disappointments were List (who missed a 6 ft putt to make the cut, ugh), Andrew Loupe, and Sean O’Hair.   Sean O’Hair especially hurt me because I had several Lovemark, Kizzire, An teams with that bastard ruining them.  The worst part is that he was T5 heading into the 2nd round and absolutely imploded.  I talked about the fading the Top three strategy which I have implemented several times over the past three years and generally it pays off.  It works really well in fields that only feature a few elite players that I know everybody will gravitate towards.  Justin Rose missing the cut and Rickie Fowler being irrelevant was huge for the strategy and Jason Day finishing T5 really was not that harmful, considering his price.  I would encourage you to keep this strategy in mind in similar situations going forward.

This week we have The Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.  This is a course that favors ball strikers and long ball strikers at that.  Beyond the Top 6 priced players, the pricing does not make it that tough to build really strong rosters.  The $7k-$8k range is especially loaded with great tee-to-green guys, who have terrific current form.  I will not be dropping down below $7k very much this week and prefer a bit more of a balanced approach.  Best of luck to you this week my friends!
