Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Valero Texas Open
Raise your hand if you had Sii Woo Kim and Satoshi Kodaira facing off in a playoff for the RBC Heritage? If your hand is raised, now send me an email because I want you writing for FGI. I unfortunately did not have either of those gentlemen in my core. Fortunately, I did have Bryson DeChambeau (T3), Webb Simpson (T5), Patrick Cantley (T7), and Kevin Kisner (T7) as key members of my core. Outside of those guys we had some middling performances including Grillo (T16), Schauffele (T32), Glover (T32), Knox (T40), ZJ (T42), and Molinari (T49). I did want to give a special shout out to FGI member Erik_Zubkov, who won a qualifier into the Kings of the Hill contest on DK worth $6k and he tweeted me his lineup which consisted of Simpson, Cantlay, Kisner, DeChambeau, Schauffele, and Glover, all members of the core. Best of luck to Erik this week as he has a chance to win a ton of money if he can keep advancing in that contest.
I have to be honest, I was thrown off a bit before the RBC Heritage even started as my highest owned player, Adam Hadwin withdrew on Wednesday. I had to alter my core significantly since I had so much exposure to Hadwin. There werent’t many options that I liked right around his price, so I elected to change around my lineup composition a bit. My pivots off of Hadwin ended up being Kuchar, Dufner, and Schauffele. Dufner was easily the biggest letdown of the week and it stung even more because the only reason he ended up in my core was because of the Hadwin wd.
If you have been reading my column a while, you know that I keep a notebook and take detailed notes on each weeks events. I use this notebook before every event to see what I found important from previous years events. One of those things I had circled in my notebook and highlighted in my column last week, was that I really like using TPC Sawgrass as a comparative course for Harbourtown. Seeing Sii Woo Kim and Ian Poulter who finished 1st and 2nd last year at The Players competing to win on Sunday reinforced that idea. Of course there are always exceptions, but if we were to have just had some exposure to both of those guys it would have helped teams with Webb/Kisner/Cantlay/DeChambeau who we did have and possibly propelled them to big money. Onward to this week’s event the Valero Texas Open and the field strength does not have much to be desired so thank goodness for fantasy golf and DFS golf or we probably would not give a damn about it.
