Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Valero Texas Open

For the third consecutive year, the RBC Heritage has been very good to me and The Hardcore Core. I told you last week that I felt really good about the tournament and our research and it certainly turned out nicely. Thank you to all of you who sent us emails with your results and tweet out screen shots, it helps affirm that all our hard work to give you the necessary tools and information you need is worth it.

In my column last week I told you that I was going to be fading Matt Kuchar. It turned out to be a fine move as he was only able to muster a T11 and 75 Draftkings points. If not for a typical, pressure off, low Sunday round, the decision would have really benefited us a ton. Our assumption was correct that he would be one of the higher owned guys (20% across most GPPs) and when he plummeted to the bottom of the standings on Saturday, I thought we would really set ourselves apart from the field. I knew that we would see a charge out of Kuchar on Sunday and sure enough it happened, but still his points for the top priced player were not enough to make us regret the decision. It could have just been spectacular though. On a side note, I did have quite a bit of Kuchar on my weekend DK lineups, just because I felt like we would see a Sunday charge. Keep that in mind in the future when opportunities present themselves. I really like the weekend offering and think Team FGI has a big edge over the rest of the field with our knowledge.

Most of the entire core did well as the South Carolina folks really performed well as I put a strong emphasis on that last week. Of course we had the South Carolinians Wes Bryan (1st) along with William Mcgirt (3rd) and Kevin Kisner (T11-although his late struggles cost me some coin). I absolutely loved the fact that a bunch of people in the industry and several on popular podcasts said they did not like Luke Donald. Those folks obviously influenced some people as his ownership was well below what I thought it should be given his price and he ended up about 20%. At $7,800, his course history, and how the course sets up perfectly for his game, it was an absolute no-brainer for me to load up on him and it paid off handsomely. When you have the top 3 finishers in your core you are probably going to do well, but we also added Jason Dufner (T11), Knox (T11), and Hadwin and Molinari (T22), along with a bunch of other guys who made the cut, and we ended with a very nice week. As always there are a few grenades that blew up some squads and prevented us from being perfect like Bill Haas (that was an embarrassing 2nd round by the way), Fitzpatrick, Kokrak, and Cink all of which I had exposure to.

Alright, enough about last week, we need to be happy, but also need to keep working hard and grinding away with our research if we are going to continue to stay ahead of others outside of Team FGI.
