Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Tour Championship
It is impossible to believe that we have reached the Tour Championship and the conclusion of the 2016-2017 PGA Tour season. I feel like I just wrote The Crystal Ball Article yesterday in anticipation of a full nine consecutive months of golf. I don’t think I am alone in feeling like time is just flying by these days. It just feels like I was in my 20s a few years ago and here Zach and I will be turning 40 in 2018. I guess we need to just try and enjoy some part of every day and do our best to slow it down. Even though we have reached the Tour Championship and the conclusion of this golf season, the great part about golf is that it is basically a year around sport. Whereas when football comes to an end, the wait seems almost unbearable for another season to start seven months later. With golf, we have the Tour Championship this week, then the Presidents Cup the following week, and the Safeway Open kicks off the 2017-2018 season the very next week on October 5th. We literally have only 1 week off for DFS Golf purposes and even then we have Euro Tour DFS.
If you have not played Fall golf in the past, I want you to give it a try this Fall. We have been successful every Fall season since we started playing DFS golf several years back. I think there are a couple of reasons for the success. 1. Most of the DFS industry is fixated on football 2. Most people have no idea who the new players are to the PGA Tour and there are a lot of them. Our data and research sets us apart from most people playing Fall DFS Golf. If you didn’t have as successful of a golf season as you hoped or you have been struggling lately, the Fall is a great time to try and get the magic back. If you have been killing it, like a lot of you have been, let’s just keep the momentum going. Even though GPPs have the large payday, I also want you to play cash games as well in the Fall. 70-80% cash games and 20-30% GPPs is a good solid mix to help you build your bankroll while also taking shots at the big money.
In addition, to having great golf action, I am sure you have noticed we are covering football as well this season. Through the first two weeks, I am 2-0 in cash games, thanks in part to Zach’s Daily Spin, which focuses on cash games. Plus I have had some decent cashes in GPPs, although nothing huge yet. If you do not normally play NFL, give that a try as well. Just play cash games to start and play small. You should be able to be profitable with the information that we provide. As always, if you have any questions, let us know, we are always willing to do anything we can to help you be successful and profitable.
If you were to have told me last week that we had four guys in the Core finish in the Top 7, I would have thought we would have broken the bank. Unfortunately, the guy who finished as the runaway winner, was not one of them. Marc Leishman put on an absolute clinic the entire tournament and deservedly hoisted the trophy on Sunday. We definitely picked the correct guys up top with Fowler (T2), Day (T4), and Spieth (T7), while dodging Rory and DJ. We did have some Matsuyama exposure however and he was a massive disappointment for us. The strategic fade of Paul Casey, who ended up being one of the highest owned guys across GPPs, as we predicted, turned out to be the correct move as he finished outside the Top 30. We were able to get a few high quality performances from guys in the $7k range like Molinari (T12), Perez (T12), Mickelson (T20), Schauffele (T20), and Woodland (T27). A couple of guys that killed some teams were Kisner, who was absolute junk all week and Kevin Na, who rallied on Sunday, but before that was garbage. The Core produced some GPP cashes last week, but without Leishman, I wasn’t able to get any lineups in the winner’s circle
The culmination of the entire season comes downs to East Lake this week and the Top 30 players in FedEx Cup points. This is obviously a different kind of week than most factoring in the size of the field and the fact there is not a cut. Below I will share with you the winning lineups of GPPs from last year for this event so that we have an idea of the correct roster construction and strategy.
