Jeff’s Hardcore Core- The Open Championship
We have quickly arrived at our 4th major of the season, The Open Championship. The Royal Liverpool Golf Club, which is located in the small town of Hoylake will be this year’s host. One of the benefits of having been in this industry and covering golf so closely for so long is we have seen these courses played before. Royal Liverpool hosted back in 2006 and also in 2014, which feels like yesterday. Despite shooting a 71 in the final round here in 2014, Rory McIlroy held off late chargers, Sergio Garcia, Rickie Fowler, and Jim Furyk to win by two strokes (-17). A late eagle on the par 5 16th clinched it for Rory. That was the year Fowler finished Top 5 in all four majors. I will talk about Royal Liverpool and the changes that have been made to the course since that tournament below.
You may have noticed the Draftkings pricing this week already, but it is a bit different. Scottie Scheffler, the top priced player this week is priced up at $12,500. On the opposite end of things, DK has lowered the minimum player price to $5,500. This stretches out the player pool pricing more than it typically is. It will be interesting to see if DK sticks with this format or returns to normal after this week.
