Jeff’s Hardcore Core- The Olympics
Usually when I really look forward to something, I typically end up being disappointed, but I can honestly tell you the 3M Open did not disappoint and I had ton of fun. I have been to quite a few PGA courses, some I have played, some I have not, but in my opinion TPC Twin Cities is one of the most interesting, fun, challenging, and unique courses anywhere. From the variations in the difficulty of the Par 4s, to the ultra tough 9th hole, to the insanely fun 18th, there is just a ton of variety to be had throughout the entire course. I love courses that offer plenty of birdie opportunities, but also huge numbers and we saw plenty of those this past weekend, including a couple of 9s and even a 12 on the 18th. The rough turned out to be quite thick and difficult to escape from, which made the course even better as balls off the beaten path were penalized. My hats off to the course as it was in immaculate condition and especially with drought-like conditions we have been having for a couple months now. It is fun walking the course, but it is also fun to pull up a spot in certain spots like the 4th hole green, which is a fun par 3, and the 5th and 15th greens where not many people venture out to. Again we had a pretty great ending to the tournament as we have had the last couple of editions. Finally, it was fun to be out on the course with my daughter, who absolutely loved every minute of being there and we had an such a blast together. Not many 11 year old girls are so eager to wake up at 5:00 in the morning so that we could be on the course by 6:30 to catch the opening tee times on Thursday and Friday, but she was and the memories that we have at this event will last forever.
This week we move to Japan for The Olympic event and for one of the few weeks during the year do not have a PGA Tour event. It is a small field this week on a course we have never seen in action, so it should be interesting. This is the final week to qualify for the FGWC as that kicks off at the WGC St Jude the following week. There are a ton of qualifiers available this week. I heard from a couple of you who won seats last week, so I am guessing they both enjoyed the 3M quite a bit as well. I was fortunate enough to grab my 7th seat into the event. Of course it makes no difference how many seats you have if you can’t get into that final 40 and the return of the Live Final. From my experience at two live finals (one golf, one football), I can tell you it is certainly a fantastic experience. Best of luck this week my friends, and keep up the great work!
