Jeff’s Hardcore Core- The Northern Trust

The start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs is always an exciting time as we have four straight weeks of high quality tournaments and fields.  This week we have the Top 125 guys in the FedEx Cup standings at The Northern Trust then next week the Top 100 guys advance to Boston for the Dell Technologies.  TPC Boston will always have a place in my heart after I had the opportunity to participate in the one and only Live Golf Final that there has ever been in 2015.  A ton of great contests on Draftkings over the next month and I have heard from a ton of FGI members who are in the Fantasy Golf World Championship, so good luck to all of you.  Personally I am boycotting the FGWC until they go back to holding a LIVE FINAL, which I will never understand why golf is the only sport they do not hold one for now.

Before we dive into The Northern Trust, let’s review the Wyndham Championship from last week.  For the first time in four weeks, I did not have the winner included in my core.  Bottom line is I thought Snedeker was too expensive, despite his great tournament history.  Turns out he easily paid off his lofty price and only around 5% of the field owned him.  I was rooting hard for C.T Pan coming down the stretch as I had 25% exposure, which put me about 2X overweight the field.  Still, even without being able to close the deal, Pan produced massive value finishing T2 for his $7,800 price.  Besides Pan, others that finished well for us from the core included Ryan Moore (T6), Brian Gay (T6), Chris Kirk (T11), Billy Horschel (T11), and Johnson Wagner (T33).  My big contrarian play was Sergio Garcia and it looked outstanding heading into Sunday when he was in the Top 10, but then it all came crashing down in the final round as Serg posted a lousy 70.  A T24 was not a disaster for him, but not nearly what I was hoping for after Saturday for a guy I owned 3X the field.  The play that hurt me the most and it was not even close was Russell Henley.  Nearly a third of my teams lost any chance of competing with a lame duck Friday round from him.  Only two others in the entire core missed the cut (Berger and Duncan).  13 made the cut out of 16 players in my core, so a decent week.  If we can put that cut% together with a winner, then we have a monster week.

Enough of The Wyndham, let us move onto this week’s The Northern Trust.  Best of luck Team FGI!
