Jeff’s Hardcore Core- The Memorial Tournament
It feels so good to absolutely nail weeks like we did for the Dean & Deluca last week. Thank you to everybody who sent me your wins in GPPs last week, it makes me feel like all the hard work is worth it. My main goal is to make everyone who is a part of Team FGI a successful and profitable DFS player and I am willing to help, if you are having any struggles. My direct email is jeff@fantasygolfinsider.com. I always talk about there being many aspects to being a winning DFS player, and the player selection is just one of them. Proper bankroll management, game selection, roster composition, strategic fading opportunities, game theory, and other tactical strategies are all important. That is where I believe that FGI surpasses everybody else in the industry with our content. Anybody can throw out player names, but that alone is not going to make you a winning player in the long run.
Overall, last week 13 of the 15 guys in the core made the cut and eight of them finished in the Top 25. We nailed the winner and we nailed most of the sleepers as well. Also, the reduction of exposure of Kevin Chappell proved beneficial as well. Not every week is going to be that great, but that is why bankroll management is so important. After a very good week the natural tendency is to be excited and move more money into play, but you need to stay disciplined and only use 15-20% of your overall bankroll on a weekly basis and of that 70% in cash games and 30% in GPPs.
This week we have The Memorial Tournament and a stacked field, which means that you are going to have some very good players at very reasonable prices. Again this week there is a smaller field (122 golfers). I believe for those two reasons that the guys at the top are going to be very heavily owned (Day as the highest owned).

As I mentioned, I think Jason Day and Hideki Matsuyama will be the highest owned players this week. For those folks who wonder how I can list a guy in my Hardcore Core, but also say an option of fading him is a worthy strategy- Here is my answer: Day is the top player in the world, he is on an amazing run right now and I would expect him to do well this week at The Memorial. However, this is golf and if you haven’t noticed, the unpredictable can happen from time to time. If I could say with absolute certainty if a particular player (Day in this case) was going to win a tournament, I would have my own island in the South Pacific. I cannot, thus I do not. Nobody can predict with absolute certainty who will do well and who will flop, but that is where strategy becomes so important. Although I believe Day will most likely do well this week, I predict he will be owned by 25% + of the field and he is the top priced player (which means he basically needs to finish in the Top 3 to pay off his price). So if there is a chance that he could finish outside the Top 20 or 30, it might be worth it to take a chance and intentionally fade him to separate yourself from a large percentage of the field, in case that happens. We have seen this work countless times, including Kevin Chappell last week. I want to point out opportunities to you folks, whenever I see them. Does all of that make sense? Good, onto the Core-
*Update- In my certain GPPs (mostly the $4 on DK) I have decided to completely fade Day, Spieth, and Kuchar and mix in DJ, Bubba, and Fowler. I am keeping my Hardcore Core the same, but always want to be transparent with you folks with what I am doing. This might come back to bite me, but I just feel like the risk is worth the reward, because most everybody will have one or more of those guys in their lineups and I have not heard many in the industry talking about Fowler or Bubba. There are 100,000+ entries, so you need to do something dramatic to stand apart. I will still utilize my core in certain contests, because I think they are the best plays.
