Week three of the 2018-2019 PGA Tour Season and they remains in Asia this week, this time on Jeju Island which is off the coast of South Korea’s mainland.  We will certainly break down the field, strategies for our Draftkings lineups, and the core that I will use throughout GPPs this week, but let’s first recap last week’s CIMB Classic.

What went well- Unfortunately we could not continue the positive momentum we had from the Safeway, and I would say more went wrong than went well.  I decided that I wanted to be overweight the field on Justin Thomas.  Knowing that he would be owned by 30%+ of the field throughout GPPs (he actually ended up higher), I knew we had to be close to 50-60% exposure.  Despite clearly not having his A- game, Thomas finished T5, was the highest DK point scorer above $10k, and the third highest above $8k (7th overall).  The winner of the $44 GPP had Thomas on their roster.  I would say it wasn’t an amazing result for owning Thomas, but we could certainly have owned him and had great results if we had the correct players to round out lineups around him.  The other good part of my core from the upper dollar range was Gary Woodland who finished 5th.   Other positives throughout the core included Stewart Cink and Keith Mitchell (T22).  That is all that I would characterize as extremely positive.

What went wrong-  Most of my supporting characters.  There were plenty of guys that could have filled out rosters anchored by Justin Thomas, I unfortunately just didn’t own them.  Aphibarnrat, Lahiri, Kokrak, Putnam, and Ryder were all massive disappointments.  Most of them finished in the T30 range, but in 70 player fields with no cut, 30th place finishes are not going to get it done.  Not having any exposure to the winner of the tournament and leading DK point scorer (by 26 points more then 2nd) in this type of an event is a disaster.  Hindsight is 20/20, but I can’t fault myself for not being on him with his mediocre form coming in, and especially with all the other options that I liked I the upper pricing tier.

Pretty disappointing week considering our success with the Safeway the previous week and last year’s CIMB, which we crushed.  Onward we will move and we will certainly try and get back into the win column this week.

Best of Luck this week Team FGI-
