This week we have the first of three events in Asia with the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges as we continue to plug along on this extended fall schedule. It is also the first small field, no-cut event of this young season as well. A handful of big names in the field and it is always fun to watch late night golf, it should be a great week.  I will dive deep into my player pool shortly, but first let’s recap last week’s Houston Open.

What went right? The middle range of my core was amazing and had I just built more strictly balanced teams without incorporating any guys at $9,000 or above, it would have been a huge week.  Of course we went back yet again to Lanto Griffin after I featured him in my Newcomers to Target article and also in my Hardcore Articles all fall so far.  He gave us a huge win and continues the success of the young guys coming onto the tour early in the season.  I have talked about it endlessly, but we have a really large edge this time of year when these new guys come in with next to zero notoriety.  Others who were great in this range included Carlos Ortiz (T4), Harris English (T4), and Xinjun Zhang (T4).  I built 150 teams and entered them into the large $8 Best Ball GPP on Draftkings, which had 36,764 entries.  My best finisher was 89th place and the crazy thing was that team was not one of the 25% of my teams with Lanto Griffin on it.  Oh what might have been.

What went wrong?  If you had any guys above $9k, not one paid off their price.  I was fortunate enough to have a few of the better finishers including Scheffler (T28), Munoz (T28), Knox (T28), and Stanley (T21).  Even though they were among the better finishers in the upper tier, those type finishes are not going to get it done for the price tag.  Of course Daniel Berger crushed 25% of my teams and you now see why I was not willing to invest more than 25-30% on anybody last week with the unpredictability that event brings.   The lower tier of my core was absolutely brutal with Sucher, Ghim, Hoge, and Werenski all missing the cut.  With the guys in the top tier and bottom tier both doing equally as lousy, the balanced approach was definitely the way to have gone last week.  I was following those of you who were flirting will be GPP wins last week including Randman3972 who had a team finish 31st and 44th in the big $8, which is a great accomplishment, especially considering he didn’t max it out as he had 62 entries.  I also heard from a couple of you who hit Lanto Griffin props, so congratulations to all of you who made a few bucks.

Now let’s dive into The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges!
