Jeff’s Hardcore Core- The American Express
The Tour leaves the Hawaiian islands and heads to California as we have another cut event this week, well kind of. The American Express, formerly the Desert Classic, CareerBuilder, Humana, and the Bob Hope Classic is a three course rotating, pro-am event. All players will play the TPC Stadium Course, PGA West’s Nicklaus Tournament course, and La Quinta Country Club each of the first three days. Then there will be a 54 hole cut and the final round will be played on the TPC Stadium Course again. Every year that goes by more and more people are aware that La Quinta is the easiest of the three, with Nicklaus close behind, and the Stadium Course being the toughest of the three. I still think there is a bit of an edge for us in knowing that (albeit less than a few years ago), so I will play quite a bit of Showdown contests this week to try and capture an edge by stacking La Quinta and possibly Nicklaus players each day. I will also play weekend golf and stack players that play La Quinta on Saturday to ensure a real easy round under their belt.
